Boy best friend?

Angelica, Maria and Thomas sat on Angelica's fluffy pink carpet eating chips and guacamole while doing their homework.
"Jesus 7th grade is so hard." Angelica said as she looked up on google the square root of 7.
"Angelica stop looking up the answers on google you're not going to learn like that." Thomas told Angelica.
"Learn my ass. I'm still getting an A right?" Angelica asked laughing a little.
"Why don't you ask Thomas to help you, you know he's good at math and he's your boyfriend." Maria teased and Thomas and Angelica looked at each other awkwardly.

"Why don't you ask one of the cute girls in our grade we all know you're a lesbian." Angelica responded. "And besides Thomas isn't my boyfriend he's my boy best friend."
"Mhm." Maria said skeptically. "You're boyfriend." She said under her breath but loud enough for Angelica to hear.
"Shutup." Angelica said grabbing a chip and dipping it into the guacamole.
In about 20 minutes the preteens were done with their homework and now were talking about the kids in their grade.

"You know James Reynolds?" Maria asked and Angelica nodded. How could she forget him he used to bully her back in kindergarten.
"Yeah." Angelica and Thomas answered.
"I heard that he had sex with Sally Hemmings at some party last weekend." Maria told the group and Thomas's shot up.
"No that couldn't have happened Sally is not that stupid to lose her virginity with that dirty little boy." Thomas told us and he blushed lightly. "Besides I talk to Sally every single day I thing she would've told me that by now." Thomas said smiling from ear to ear.

"Ooh tommy has a crush." Maria said and Angelica smiled but down on the inside she was hurt.
Just be happy for Thomas he's always happy for you.
She tried convincing herself she didn't like Thomas but it failed she liked Thomas, and she wanted him to be more than a boy bestfriend.
"Angelica!" Maria yelled and Angelica jumped.
"Huh what's going on?" Angelica asked startled.
"I've been calling your name for 3 minutes didn't you hear me?" Maria asked as Angelica shook her head no.
"No sorry." Angelica said, glancing at Thomas he looked back at her with a really concerned face.
"You sure you ok Ange?" Thomas asked and Angelica nodded.
"I'm fine." Angelica said.
"But you-"
"I'm fine." Angelica snapped annoyed and she started to look over the math answers.

An awkward silence filled the room and Angelica looked down embarrassed tears welling in her eyes.
In about ten minutes Thomas's phone dinged and he started collecting his thing.
"I'll see you guys later my moms picking me up for soccer." He told the 2 girls and they both nodded. Now he looked at Angelica, "uh feel better Angelica." Thomas said as he walked out the room.
"I'm fine fine!" Angelica yelled in annoyance.

"You like him don't you?"
"What?"
"You heard me. You like him don't you?" Maria asked again and Angelica sighed plopping down on her bed.
"I do and all he cares about is that Sally chick. It's not fair what's so good about Sally what did she do in the world? Did she win a Nobel peace prize? No! did she win the presidential elections? No! She didn't do anything that good to get his attention and I've known Thomas longer he should at least kind of be attracted to me." Angelica yelled.
"Angelica stop stressing yourself out over a boy." Maria said laughing a bit. "And relax. You're prettier than Sally, you're smarter than Sally and you're nicer if he ever does go out with Sally she kind of is a downgrade if he went out with you." Maria told Angelica and Angelica laughed. Maria always made things better.

"Thank you." Angelica said and she opened her arms for a hug, Maria happily accepted.
"No problem and stop thinking about Thomas we're only in 7th grade anyway you have plenty of time to get with him. And besides middle school relationships are fake anyways." Maria said and Angelica nodded in agreement.
So for now Thomas would be her boy best friend but in the future that would change.
