THE NEXT FEW DAYS, Roland and Jamie visited me, along with the news reporters and camera men who were desperately trying to interview Pony, Johnny, and I. We did, but it was mostly Soda goofing with them. I'm not complaining though - the flashed from the camera gave me a headache.
The duo stayed with me the whole day, entertaining me and helping me with my work that I had to catch up on. I was really grateful for having them, it was nice knowing I had friends that weren't my brother's as well. Even after I was admitted out of the hospital, they continued to stay by my side.
"So all I have to do is multiply this by its force?" I asked Roland, pointing at the numbers on the paper in front of me.
"Yuppers," he replied. "You're a fast learner, Mathews."
"I learn from the best." I winked. He lightly blushed and Jamie came back from the bathroom.
"Hey, I didn't know Dallas was hospitalized as well." Jamie said, taking a seat on my bed.
"He was, but somehow convinced the doctors that he was fine. I don't know how, he's Dallas."
She shrugged and Two-bit came in, telling them it was late and they ought to go home before their folks holler at them. We said our goodbyes and he took a seat on where Jamie sat.
My bed creaked and the two of us let the silence consume us. Our relationship was those types that didn't need words to fill indicate that we are here, it can be silent and it sill wouldn't be awkward.
I was staring at my walls that were filled with posters, listening to my old clock make the same tick sound over and over again.
"Tonight, we're gonna have a rumble with the Socs."
I perked up from my bed. "Can I come?"
He looked at me incredulously, "Are you kidding me? You just came out of the hospital and you wanna go back in there? No way in hell am I bringing you with me."
"But Pony and I can take down one person, o-or can I at least watch? Not like watch the rumble, but be there if anybody gets hurt. I promise I won't get in the way, and I'll keep my distance."
He rubbed his eyes with his forefinger and thumb. "Fine, but I'll bring my car and you're staying in there."
I quickly nodded and scurried around for my bookbag to fill them up with bandages and other medical supplies. I ran down to the pantry and grabbed snacks in case I got hungry.
