"God Denise, you're so funny. Did that really happen?" I asked still laughing from what she told me. "Yes of course, and it is still the talk of the town." She replied also laughing. We had been in my room for about two hours now and Denise had me cracking my ribs with laughter as she told me things that had been happening in the north, yeah, they still lived there. I didn't know she was this fun to be with, and I didn't even imagine bonding so much with her already. "You remember Melissa right?" She asked, about to say another story. I nodded, "and her sneaky boyfriend?" She asked again, and I nodded again. "Well she's pregnant now." Now this was no joke, Melissa was one of my friends in school then and we had all tried to get her away from that no good boyfriend of hers but she was stuck with him like a leach. "Tell me its a joke." I begged Denise who didn't look like she was joking. "Its no joke Eva, and to make it worse, the idiot ran away denying her completely." OMG! I could only imagine the kind of pains Melissa would be going through now. "I feel so sorry for her." I said, sympathy dripping from my voice. "Don't be. She got what she deserved. She had decided not to leave him alone after all." Denise chided mildly.
Our talk lingered to different things and she asked me if I had made friends here. "Yes, a lot of them but some of them are just fans of my hair." I told her jokingly, she laughed. "Your hair? What's so special about this thick stuff that we can't handle?" She asked still laughing. I had to agree with her, the thing was so difficult to tame. "They've never seen this type before. You should have seen me on my first day, I didn't get to class without about ten people touching it all the way." I recounted that day's happening. We laughed together and then fell silent. The silence was deafening and was becoming uncomfortable. For more than thirty minutes we sat there staring at nothing but avoiding eye contact with each other. Then I caught Denise staring at me and the staring game began. I didn't back down and she didn't either, her eyes felt like they were piercing deep into me probably searching for something I didn't know of. I felt lost in her eyes and she held my gaze for quite so long and then she started moving closer. I knew I had to move but felt glued to where I sat on the bed. She covered up the space between us without breaking the stare. Still looking at me, she started talking. "Eva, will it be wrong to say I want you?" She whispered. I didn't know what to say, I opened my mouth to speak but she beat me to it. "You really don't have to answer that. I just want you to know that its you I keep thinking of. Its you I want, no other girl." She was professing love for me, her cousin. Could this get more awkward? "Please Denise, stop talking like that. You're sounding creepy." I finally found my voice, but it didn't help matters and it looked like she didn't even hear me. Before I could say Jack Robinson, her lips were on mine, camly at first then becoming slowly possessive. My mind initially tried to play me and I was confused what she was doing, by the time I could think straight her tongue was probing my lips to part them and without a will of my own, I did. The kiss was delicate, like we were scared something would break, her lips were also soft and tasted like strawberry which was good. Did she always taste like this? She was a really good kisser but the sane side of me had already started warning me to stop before things got out of hand. Gently I pushed her away, and moved back a bit to create space between us again.
"I'm so-"
"We shou-"
We were both talking at the same time. "You should go first." I said. "I'm sorry for what I just did. I couldn't help my self." She apologized, then asked. "Did I make you feel uncomfortable?" She sure did, but I wouldn't lie when I said the kiss was good and I also didn't want to scare her. "No, not at all. I was just surprised cause I didn't see it coming." I explained untruthfully. I heard her sigh, maybe from relief that she hadn't upset me. What was going to happen now? This is exactly what I was trying to avoid all along and now it had happened.
