The sound of murmurs interrupted my strange dreams. I mumbled something under my breath as I rolled over, only to be met by a wall of muscle.
My eyes shot open partly as I examined the object in front of me. My eyes wandered towards the pillow next to me, and I instantly had to bite my tongue to hold back a scream. Alex was next to me gently shaking my shoulder.
"Evvy wake up." Alex said softly as he shook my shoulder.
"No." I grumbled as I rolled over and shoved my face into my soft pillow case.
"But Evelyn, school. If you don't wake up you will be late to your first day." At that my eyes shot open.
I sat bolt upright and threw the covers off of my bare legs. The carpet was cool against my bare feet but I made it to my bathroom without a problem. As I swung around the door frame I waved my hand towards my door.
"You are excused." I said with a smile. Alex just laughed as he took long strides towards the hall. After he disappeared around the corner, I shut the bathroom door.
I scrambled for my hairbrush as I untangled my knotty hair. After yanking my hair for a good five minutes I got to my face.
I pulled my long hair back into a ponytail as I splashed some cold water on my face. I recoiled at the touch of the coldness but then got back over the sink for another round. I fumbled with the vanity drawers for a while until I finally managed to get it.
"Thank the lord." I mumbled as I got out my makeup bag.
Now time for construction.
I first started with this cream stuff my mom had gotten me from Germany and I applied it all over my tan face. I did the under eye corrector and finally did a natural colored blush. I put on peach colored eyeshadow and then applied a thin line of black eyeliner to each of my lids. The black pencil slid smoothly across my damp skin, and my mascara wand trailed easily through my thick lashes.
I took my hair out of its pony tail and ran the brush through it for a final time. As soon as my hair was tamed I shuffled out of my bathroom towards my closet. As I opened the door, the scent of smoke and vanilla entered my nose. I smiled wryly as I flicked through my clothes. I finally decided on my new navy skater skirt and my ash colored Nirvana crop top. I paired my outfit with my beat up black Vans. As I threw my clothes on I grabbed my new black and blue North Face from underneath my bedside table and stuffed my phone in the front pocket. As I exited my room I ran straight into Dylan. Now he was not a happy camper.
He faced me and immediately I cringed. His usual laid back gray eyes were blood shot, almost as if he was up all night. His fists were clenched at his sides and his face looked fallen. He looked at me disgusted and then thundered down the stairs.
I blew a strip of hair out of my face as I followed behind him. What the heck was going on with him? As I thought about Dylan and his problems I decided to run into one of the columns at the bottom of the stairs. As I rubbed the stars out of my vision I heard laughs from the dining room.
"Seriously Ev?" A voice called from the corner.
I looked up to see Alex laughing at me as he grabbed me by the elbow. I was thankful for the extra support, but it was getting annoying having him see me falling all the time.
Like really annoying.
"Can't you ever be careful around here?" Alex asked as he led me towards the line of bar stools. I shook my head and then set my bag on the floor below one of the metal chairs. Alex just smiled at me as he pulled out my chair.
"M'lady." Alex said as he gestured with his hands towards the chair. I smiled graciously and sat on the velvety chair. Alex took a seat next to me as he started chewing on a banana.
"Vew ecited?" He asked through a mouthful. He swallowed his mouthful and pushed a bowl of fruit my way. I picked up a shiny red apple and took a large bite, sending juice at both Alex and I. I giggled slightly as I wiped my face off.
"Ya I guess." I mumbled as I took another bite. Alex nodded as he got up from his chair and started towards his fridge.
"Water?" He asked as he took out two bottles of water. I nodded as he threw his arm back.
"Catch."
As the bottle flew through the air, the cap decided to go airborne. Water cascaded everywhere in sight, but thankfully it only splashed Alex, but it's got everything else soaked. I gasped loudly as I cupped a hand over my mouth.
"And you call me clumsy!"
Alex smiled sheepishly as he started mopping up the water with a towel.
"Go and grab another bottle and then we are out the door." Alex said as he threw the wet rag into his sink and shouldered a black Nike bag. I stuck my water in my bag and then hurried back to Alex's side.
"Lego." He said as he started walking towards his garage door. I followed behind as I bit into my apple once more, and then threw it behind me into a trashcan.
When I excited the mansion I was met by a silver Zenzo. My eyes ogled the shiny object as Alex opened the passenger door. He smirked at me and gestured towards the leather interior.
"Well, are you coming?" He asked as I snapped out of my thoughts.
I approached the car as my rubber soles squeaked underneath me. Alex was still holding the door open, and as soon as I entered the vehicle he slammed the door gingerly. He hustled towards the drivers side, flashed me a smile, then hit the gas.
My head hit the back of my seat as we whirled through the streets of Portland. I rolled down my window and let my curly locks blow behind me. I smiled as we appeared near a large building, but then my nerves got to me.
My stomach muscles tightened as we pulled into a large parking lot. I could hear girlish squeals as Alex pulled up into a front row spot next to a red Ferrari. The screams increased as I looked next to us at where Dylan was parked. How he had gotten there without me seeing him, no clue. I would like to blame the drugs.
"Ready?" Alex asked as he cracked his knuckles.
"No." I admitted as I rubbed my hands together. Outside the car girls were chanting what sounded like Alex and Dylan but I also heard another unfamiliar name. Something like Madi, or Katty. One of those.
I took a deep breath as Alex unlocked the car doors. I gripped the handle of the door and pushed. Then I understood what Tanner said when he said the boys had fangirls.
Girls swarmed around the two cars, nearly trampling each other to get to the two brothers. Alex and Dylan were all smiles while I was stuck between the two boys and the thousand or so girls. Some girls sent glares my way while others smiled up at me. My breath caught as I felt a hand grab mine.
"Told ya we had fangirls." Alex breathed in my ear as he gripped my wrist.
"Must be popular then." I mumbled back as we started towards the front doors of Hodgekin High.
"You have no idea." Alex said with a cheeky smile.
We ducked into the main lobby and then I understood the extent of his popularity.
