"So what are we going to do for this homework." He said walking around my room.

"I dont know, maybe we can write some stuff from the textbook" I said flicking through my book.

"Ok so can I go to the garage? I will be back soon." He said walking towards the door.

"No, we're doing it now."

"Okay, calm down don't get so stressed." He turned around  and stepped towards me.

"No...I'm sorry...I just don't like getting stuck with all the work." I said fiddling with my thumbs.

"It's okay I wasn't going to make you do all of the work" He gave me a small smile and jumped onto my bed.

"Ashton, move your feet." I warned, pointing at his shoes on my mattress.

"Oh, sorry!" He said ripping off his shoes and throwing them aross my room. Time almost froze as I watched one of his shoes hit my ballerina ornament, smashing it into tiny fragments.

My nan gave me that when I was little, I'd promised her I would take care of it. It was the last thing she'd given me before she had passed away. And now it lay in pieces on the floor. Just like the ballerina, my promise was broken.

"Noooo" I shouted running over to the broken ballet dancer.

"I'm so sorry I can replace it!" He rushed to pick up the pieces, trying to piece them back together like a jigsaw puzzle.

"My grandma gave this to me before she died a year ago, it has been in my family for years." I said squeezing my eyes shut, trying to stop the tears from falling.

"I-"

"Just leave my room I'll do the assessment by myself and put your name on it." I said sighing.

He grabbed his shoes and walked to the door. Running his fingers through his hair, Ashton glanced at me with a pained look on his face. I jumped as he slammed the door shut, leaving me alone in my room.

I picked up my phone and saw a text from Ashton.

'Sorry'

One word. One simple word that held so many feelings and hidden emotions. A single tear rolled down my cheek as I put my phone down.

I walked into science the next day earlier then everyone else in class. Whenever I heard the door creek I thought Ashton was going to walk in but I haven't seen him yet today.

I sat in class alone, with no one to talk to. Honestly, I missed his sarcastic comments and his stupid smirk. Did I hurt his feelings so much that he didn't come to school? I don't know what to do or what to think anymore.

"Class, after this lesson, you all need to make your way to the gym it's very important." Mr. Anderson announced.

What could be so important that we have to have an emergency assembly in the middle of the day? Nothing happens in this town let alone in this school.

The school bell went off and our class headed towards the gym. As we entered the hallway I saw all the other students whispering as they exited the classrooms. The whole school merged together and everyone walked through the gym doors.

As I turned my head I spotted Luke. Thank god he's so tall otherwise I never would've seen him. I sighed and muttered 'excuse me' while I barged past people trying not to step on their feet.

"Luke, what's going on?" I asked him while we walked into the gym.

"You know as much as I do." He whispered sitting down on the bench next to me.

"Hello, Middle Field High School, I'm Chief Saunders. There has been a crime committed in this school; a student has been murdered." The chief policeman announced.

Gasps and whispers filled the room.

"Who was murdered? Who did it?" A brave student called out.

"Emily Baker was murdered. We are going to have to question the cheerleaders and the basketball team. So anyone on these teams please stay here, can everyone else please exit the gym quietly. Thank you." Chief Saunders said.

"Kerri I have to go, just be careful" Luke said kissing my forehead and walking out with the crowd of students leaving.

-----

I had to talk to the detective about how I knew Emily and If we were friends or not. I only gave him short answers. Yeah she may have been a bully and she hurt me but she's dead.

I'm still kind of in shock. I'm not sad; we weren't friends, we practically hated each other's guts. But no one deserves to die especially when their young.

I started walking back to class, through the empty halls. It was dead quiet and I only saw one teacher who gave me a stern look and told me to get to class.

"Kerri. Kerri... Kerri!" I heard my name being called, I looked around but I couldn't see anyone. I looked once again but there was no sign of anyone. I'm probably imagining things so I ignored it and kept walking but the name calling kept getting louder.

"Kerri" My head turned to the right, trying to find the person. Ashton was waving at me on the other side of the window. So I held one  finger up signalling for him to give me a minute.

I had to sneak out of the school without anyone seeing so I opened the window and jumped out. Luckily Ashton caught me and I turned my head to see his muscles bulging and his veins visible under his pale skin.

"Kerri I need to talk to you in private." He said letting go of me and dragging me to his car. We jumped in and Ashton sat with his hands clenched around the steering wheel. He stared straight ahead not speaking. He didn't even bother making contact with me.
