Heather's POV
I landed back in Jotunheim and the citizens awaited. They looked confused as I was the only one to return.
"Where is Laufey?" one asked.
"Gather everyone at the square, I shall give a speech." I commanded. "NOW" I added before he could defy me. I waited in the square for everyone to gather. "Laufey is dead. No questions shall be asked of the cause! I am your ruler now and you must obey me! go about your lives as usual! if anyone dares to commit treason, you will die by my hand and my hand alone" I yelled across the large crowd. Whispers rose up once I had finished and turned to make my leave. I went into the throne room and took my place. The guards bowed to me as I passed and took my seat. I had no idea what to do. Did Laufey just sit here all day waiting for something to happen? one guard cleared his throat.
"My queen, if I may indulge you for a moment?" he asked. I sighed but nodded anyway.
"Surely it was the Asgardians who are at fault in your father's death. Mustn't we retaliate?" he questioned.
"I said no one shall ask of it. I know what is the best interest of this kingdom!" I shouted. He flinched at my tone. I had always been loud in my opinions but I seldom yelled.
"Of course, my queen, sorry I asked." He mumbled. I nodded and closed my eyes. I was quite tired. I was startled when I heard a noise in the room. I looked up to reveal Ronan, the realms cockiest bachelor. He was in good graces with Laufey and he was first in line to be my betrothed. Jotunheim's greatest warrior besides Laufy himself. Of course I refused an arranged marriage, any marriage for that matter. Love was for fools.
"What is it?" I asked in an annoyed tone.
"Since you are ruler now, it must be so lonely. wouldn't you be better suited with a king by your side? a fair maiden like yourself should not be labored with the stress of ruling a kingdom." He smirked. Well he works fast!
"I have been queen all of five minutes and you already insult my ability to rule?! I would rather die than take you as my husband!" I yelled. His face turned angry.
"You are a.... you... I will wait. You will see that you need me" he seethed. He bowed and left my presence. I sighed and got up as to return to my chambers. Once there I locked the door and changed into my Asgardian form. Even as an Asgardian I was small, weak, frail, and worthless. As an Jotun I was just an embarrassment. Almost half the size of any other frost giant. Laufey's excuse was always that I was made for a special purpose, but I was sick when I was born, stunting my growth. I skimmed through some books and my hand landed on one I hadn't opened in years. I accidentally dropped it and a letter fell out.
"Heather, I will be dead when you read this, many years from now. You are not my child, but you were very valuable to me. You're royalty no matter where you go, my dear, and never let anyone tell you otherwise. I can only hope that you can find someone of equal uniqueness and perfection to spend your days with. I may have never had that other than you, but you deserve it. -Laufey"Tears welled in my eyes as I read it over again. Maybe he did care. But why did he threaten to kill me? did he know that she would back down once she knew who I truly was? so many questions are running ram-pit through my mind. One reoccurring thought is Loki. He's a frost giant. How could that be? was he the true heir of Laufey? what was happening to him now? again, so many questions without answers. I laid down in my bed and closed my eyes. His pale face and emerald eyes, his perfectly sinful smile, pictures of him play in my head. I feel a smile form on my own lips. I was interrupted by a knocking on my door. I grumbled but opened it once changed back to my blue self. A guard, Zachariah, stood before me and bowed.
"My queen, we have an urgent matter that you must attend to in the dungeon," he said. I followed him to our jail and looked in the cell. A blonde woman no bigger than I sat in a black satin robe. She looked so familiar and I was taken aback at her sight.
"What is this?" I asked Zachariah.
"She was caught trying to infiltrate our armory, my queen," he told me. Her eyes shot up.
"I was not! you're a liar! he took me prisoner when he found me wandering! I was cast out from Muspelheim! he has no right to keep me here!" she yelled.
"Do not talk to our queen like that!" he snapped. He went to hit her but I stopped him.
"Leave us" I said sternly. He complied but not before giving me an angry look.
"Tell me your name, wanderer" I commanded.
"Brianna."
"Well Brianna, why were you cast from your kingdom?" I questioned.
"I dressed as a man to join the royal army, woman are forbidden to be soldiers," she said with grit in her voice.
"You're free to stay here as long as you need, although I am sure you will not be welcomed by many." I told her. I got a sudden thought. "Unless you might go to Asgard. I have good standing there and maybe you can seek refuge there"
"Maybe that would be better. I have been to Asgard before. Thank you, ma'am." She smiled.
"Please, call me Heather," I replied.
"Heather... I knew a heather once when I was younger, when I was staying as a ward of the house of Odin. She was a year younger than me. She left when I was 7 and I left shortly after." She sighed.
"Brianna.... you have a talent.... you control Fire and spirits on certain lunar cycles. you used to follow Thor around" I chuckled at the thought. "You taught me to control fire and we would light things Up! oh Frigga got so mad at us!" tears were threatening to fall.
"No! heather?!" she screeched. I nodded and pulled her into a hug. More memories flooded back and overwhelmed me. "Do not cry, all is well now"
"I know," I smiled. "Now Lets go get you a home"
