Riley:
I was a little hesitant to accept the alcohol at first. Considering the conditions I was living in with Rick and all, I've never seen anything remotely good come out of drinking alcohol. To be honest I have no idea why I accepted it in the first place.
Actually yes I do. It made me feel, me again. Plain old Riley Stone. Not a stressed, frightened, insecure Riley Stone.
I was carefree and happy. I was a seventeen-year-old girl, drinking with a boy she would find (any other day) irritating and irrelevant.
After our little tag-team wrestling match, Alex, Sasha, Katie and I posing as one team, we decided to call it a day, of course not before eating the world's supply of Papa Pita's Pizza along the way.
The rest left around the same time and I decided I wanted to drag out this beach day a little longer, it's not like I wanted to go home anytime soon.
For some reason, Alex stayed back and hung back around for a while. I could tell he wanted to hang with me, but I let him stand around for a while before I let him come and sit with me. His face lit up and he pulled out two beers from God knows where.
Then, here we were, borderline drunk sitting on the pier, looking out at the sunset.
"So you're? telling me, that dogs can legit die of a broken heart?" Alex asked, turning towards me, eyes widened with shock.
I nodded, my lips pursed in a tight line. Mostly because I felt like I was going to puke any second.
"Yep," I confirmed burping involuntarily.
He stayed silent for a while.
"Why did you tell me this! Are you trying to make me an emotional wreck right now? Seriously" Alex complained, his voice wavering.
I looked at him and saw that he was serious. I rolled my eyes. Pull it together Gomez.
"Anyways," He said, his nose crinkling as he tried to change the subject.
"-do you live around here?" He finally asked, with a curious gaze.
Do I really have to answer that?
"Umm, sort of," I answered not really wanting to get into details. I did not want someone like Alex turning up at my doorstep. No thank you!
"You?" I asked quickly before he could ask any follow-up questions.
"Yeah, my family moved here from Spain a couple years ago. To be honest I hated it when I first got here."
I looked at him in surprise,
"Really?"
He nodded, "Yeah, I hated it, I missed my old friends, I was away from everything I had grown up with and my parents just packed up and told us we were moving to the UK."
Well, that would explain his accent.
"I get that," I said quietly looking out at the sunset. I took another swig of the drink, sitting back a little.
"Get what?"
I sighed, "not fitting in, forced into situations that make me uncomfortable."
He had no idea.
"You know what Riley?" Alex said suddenly looking at me, his brows knitted in realisation.
I raised an eyebrow, looking at him. I had never noticed how blue his eyes were. They were a pastel, greyish blue. Very unusual, yet captivating.
