Riley:
The room that the Wilsons's had prepared for me was as grande as the rest of the house. It made my old room look like a shoebox. A large king-sized bed sat proudly in the center, a vanilla whit carpet blanketed the floor like a layer of soft snow. I immediately moaned at the softness of the carpet as my feet padded across the lush flooring towards the middle of the room. The theme of white and red only emphasised the royal-like persona about the whole house. Cherry looked like a rich chic but I had no idea just how rich she was.
I was in disbelief when I noticed the white closets that lined the far wall. Soft red couches circled a small nook in the corner where bookshelves of classics stood.
Cherry had told me to relax and unpack but to be truthful, there wasn't much to unpack. A couple of old hoodies and sweats along with two pairs of jeans and a crusty pair of sneakers was all I owned in the clothes department. I had shoved them all in one of the white painted cupboards draws hastily.
I then went ahead to place my beloved leather jacket on a red clothes hanger closing the cupboard door carefully. That was it! Everything else had been put away. I was wondering through the room-attached bathroom when I heard a soft knock on the door.
"Come in," I coughed, self-consciously smoothing down my oily hair. I really needed a shower.
Robert's friendly face popped around the corner and I relaxed. I don't know how awkward it would be if had been Kendra knocking. I still can't seem to wonder why she doesn't like me.
"Hello dear! Settling in alright I hope?" He asked, a subtle nervousness gleaming through his friendly manner.
I smiled and nodded hoping that my comfortable state would ease the tension, "Your house is simply amazing Robert," I confessed, gesturing to the magnificent room I was standing in.
He chuckled, "I sure would hope so, what with all the work I put into it," My mouth fell open and I gaped at his smiling face.
"You built this?" I managed in shock.
He nodded, "With a little help from the company of course, but yes I did all the necessary designs and blueprints. I was in complete and utter awe.
"It's amazing, you are a very talented man, Robert." I praised still in shock.
I didn't miss the red tinge in his cheeks as he waved his hand in dismissal at my compliment, "Oh it's nothing, I'm glad you like it. This is your new home after all and it would be a shame if you hated the house!" He chuckled, looking around at his handiwork.
I shook my head quickly, "I love it," I said simply.
He beamed, "While I'm glad. Listen, Riley, I just wanted you to know that Kendra and I are going to be away a lot, with running our family company and all so I just wanted to ask if you were alright with being with only Cherry and Carlos in the house most of the time?" He explained.
Ah, so he did run his own company. That would explain all the money. Again, different to what I had grown up with.
"Not at all, I can look after myself, Robert. Don't feel like you have to babysit me all the time," I assured, surely he knew that I had been incredibly independent with me looking after Rick as well as myself.
"Oh no, no, I know very well that you can handle yourself. I just don't want you to feel that you are on your own from now on. That Kendra and I are here for you." He said the last part quietly, his eyes kind and honest. I felt a great surge of warmth and his words. I was touched by his caring words that I felt like giving him a big hug.
