The rain kisses my face as I walk to school in the miserable weather. Although, it's walking to school in weather like this that makes me feel at complete peace. In fact it's even better when I am walking in it with my head phones plugged in with Kelly Clarkson full blast. Why you may ask? It's because it helps me distance myself from reality. I mean who would want to be stuck in a world of constant misery? Not me, that's for sure. And I'm not sure what it is but it is something about walking in the rain that makes you look at the world in a different perspective. For example, a spider web. You see it on a sunny day and it looks like any other spider web, but witness it in the rain and it looks delicate and fragile with the rain drops sprinkled all over it.
However, one bad thing to note about walking in the rain is that no matter how hard you try - You'll always get wet, especially when walking past a massive puddle that a speeding car has just driven through. Like now for instance, thanks to the idiot who was driving the car I'm practically drenched from the waist downwards. A brilliant way to start my day, note the sarcasm. And what makes it worse is that I haven't even got time to run home and get changed.
But there is no point standing here and sulking about it is there? So I start walking again before another car drives through the puddle. Making me even more wet than I already am. Anyway perhaps when I actually get to school my day will get better, or at least I hope it does.
Ten minutes later I finally walk through the school automatic doors, although I don't see why they are calls automatic if they don't work. Especially when you have to pry them open yourself. Ever experience something like that? It's annoying like hell. But the voice of my best friend is soon heard echoing off of the school walls.
"Zoey, where have you been?" Becky screeches.
"Sorry, grabbed a drive thru shower on the way" I sarcastically say as O indicate to my drenched lower half thanks to that idiotic driver.
"Never mind that! Have you been on Facebook today?" She questions me with a look of worry glinting in her eyes.
"Nope" I answer as we wonder the halls towards my locker.
"He's back!" Is all Becky manages to say before a locker near mine is slammed shut, making the whole student body near it turn and stare.
"Well isn't it no other than the boy who wants to be a girl" Jack Slater, the school's bad boy states referring to my best friend Becky. Oh yeah, did I forget to mention Becky is actually Samuel. Yeah that's right he or shall I say she is transgender.
"What now Jack?" Becky asks in an annoyed yet bored tone, and considering people snigger at her everyday. I don't blame her for her use of tone.
"Are those real?" Jack asks as he points to Becky's chest, as she has just had an operation to give herself a C cup. Lucky mare has bigger breasts than me!
"Indeed would you like to feel?" Becky smirks as she pushes her chest outwards towards Jack, who's face has crinkled up in disgust.
"Why would I even want to feel let alone look at a freak like you?!" Jack snaps. Now that comment really does get my blood boiling and if Becky doesn't put him in his place then I will! But Becky remains silent, much to Jack's own enjoyment. Allowing herself to be completely humiliated in front of the whole student body. Well not on my watch.
"Who do you think you are?" I question him as I slam my own locker just as loud as he slammed his own.
"Jack Slater, remember the name you will be screaming it later" he answers with his signature smirk along with a wink.
"The only thing I will be screaming will be the guys name who beats you to a pulp" I answer with my own wink.
"And what makes you so sure that someone could beat me up?" Jack questions whilst taking one step closer to me, so that we are a few mere centimetres away from one another.
"I'm pretty sure anyone could, especially when it comes to a freak like you!" I snarl, but all I gain in response is a humerus laugh.
"It's your friend who is the freak sweet cheeks, not me" he retorts. However, one look at Becky tells me that I now have permission to send this jerk packing.
"And what exactly makes her a freak? The fact that she finally is comfortable being who she is? How about that she can now finally be who she wants to be? Or even better the fact that she ain't a heartless soul like you?!" I snap at him, earning myself a few cheers and whistles from the other students.
But Jack doesn't argue back instead he leans in to my ear and whispers "watch your back" before walking off with his mates, leaving me thinking about his last few words. Watch your back, how original. Practically all enemies say that to one another. Besides I would personally watch the front of my body considering that's where all the good parts are.
"You didn't have to do that you know" Becky says as I reopen my locker to take my drama book out.
"I know I didn't but I chose to because your my best friend" I reply, but when I look up I notice a look of worry and concern over take her features.
"What is it?" I ask, before shutting my locker. Where just as I do so the trio of three popular girls come walking down the corridor towards us. But this trio use to be my best friends, or at least they were until one day they just stopped talking to me. Ever heard the saying "best friends forever"? What is that exactly? No one is ever best friends forever. They may as well call it best Friends until the end of the school year? Or in my case best friends until we ignore one another.
"Just ignore them, that's what they do to me" I tell her as they walk past us like the snobs that they have become.
"It's not them I'm worried about" She replies, but this just makes me concerned and cautious to what she is going on about. However, before I can question her further on her facial expression and words. I find myself being forcefully turned around by her and finding myself face to face with a pair of deep green eyes. A pair of eyes that immediately have me transfixed on them. The exact pair of eyes that I buried no longer than two months ago. And that's when I remember what Becky tried to tell me earlier. He's back. Leo Taylor, the father to my still born baby is back and this time I won't let myself drown in his gaze.
