Prologue (Part 3)

Everything was quiet. Serene. No more screaming. No more bloodshed. No more anything. Just silence. Sweet, sweet silence. But this silence wasn't natural. No one else was breathing around him except for himself.
Cenn's eyes snapped open. He was lying down on what seemed to be dirt, and it was now day. There wasn't a cloud in the sky, and it was very warm. He started to sit up, rubbing his eyes, to find something streaming down them. He looked at his hand. They were tears.
He then got the courage to look around him, hoping that it wasn't what he thought. He wasn't lying on a dirt field in his backyard.
He was lying in the middle of a small crater.
He saw bits of wood planks scattered around the area. He looked to his immediate left. There was his sister's doll, sitting right next him. It's left leg was ripped to shreds. He looked around the entire crater. It was about 60 meters in diameter, with about a meter of depth.
"Did..." Cenn began, "Did I do this..?"
He tried to get up, but a sudden pain shot through his left leg. He looked down at it. It was horrible. His leg was bent in a way that wasn't natural. It was almost twisted all the way backwards. He found a plank of wood that was intact and used it as a temporary crutch.
He looked back at the crater, where his home used to be. Gone was the little house that was surrounded by forest. Gone were the beautiful little bushes that surrounded it. And most importantly, gone was his family. His mother, his father, and his sister Keri were all gone, never to come back. He started to cry. He pictured his family in front of him, smiling and yelling him that everything was going to be alright.
"You said you'd always be here..." he said, remembering what his mother had said the day before. "You told me..." He then remembered what else she said. "Even after death..."
He started to make his way to town, crutching along the road until he started to see it ahead of him. It was a hot day. Very hot. He hadn't eaten anything since the day before, so he was also deprived of energy.
He saw the town in the distance after a solid hour of crutching along the side of the road.
"There..." he said "I made it..."
And right after he finished his sentence he fell to the ground, unconscious.

He woke up on a soft bed, in an unfamiliar room. He started to sit up, looking around the room. The bed was in the corner, along the wall was a big bookshelf, with many different kinds of works in it. To his right was a nightstand with an old lamp covered with gears. They seemed to be all welded together to form the lamp cover. He turned the lamp on and the light streamed through all of the cracks in the gears, making a pattern on the wall.
"Cool, right?" Cenn whipped his head towards the door to the room. There stood a man, about six feet tall. He had smoke black hair and onyx eyes. He had a large, muscled build, and he was probably in his mid-20s. He had welder's goggles perched above his eyes and soot all over his hands, so Cenn made the assumption that he had just been working.
"I made it myself," he said as he walked over to the side of the bed.
"W-who are you..?" asked Cenn nervously.
"My name is Kane. I'm the town blacksmith and clockmaker." He sat down on the bed beside Cenn. "What's your name, kid?"
"C-Cenn..." said Cenn, relaxing a little bit.
"You were a mess when you got here," Kane said as he got up to get one of the books off of the shelf. He opened it and showed Cenn a picture of himself. Cenn's body was covered in dirt, and he remembered his leg. It wasn't hurting anymore, but then again, it didn't even feel like anything was there.
He began to move off of the bed to see his leg, but Kane stopped him.
"I want this to be a surprise." Kane was talking to him like he had known him for years, but they had only just met, which confused Cenn greatly.
"Alright," said Kane. "You can look now."
Cenn swing his leg around the bed, and he gasped at the sight. His left thigh had been completely healed, but his calf was fully metal. His left calf had been replaced with a metal prosthetic. It didn't come out like a foot, it looked more like a peg, but it would work.
"Wow..." Cenn whispered to himself.
"I made it myself," Kane exclaimed. "It took a while, but I made it in time to get back to my regular work."
A thought suddenly clicked in Cenn's head.
"Excuse me, Mr. Kane?"
"You can just call me Kane," he said.
"H-how long have I been out for?"
There was a pause.
"You've been out for a month."
Cenn almost jumped out of his bed. A month? How could he have been out for a month? It seemed like just yesterday that he had passed out in front of the town. When it had happened...
"A month..?" Cenn asked. "You're sure?"
"Yes. I've taken care of you the entire time."
That explained why he was talking to him like he had known him for a while.
"Well, is it okay if I eat?" Cenn said with a smile on his face.
"S-sure!" Kane helped Cenn up to his feet so he could walk over to the table.
Later that day people kept showing up to Kane's house asking to see Cenn. They all were glad to see that he was okay, but he didn't know who any of them were. Then he realized that in that month, he had already been accepted as a citizen of the town.
"Hey, Kane?" Cenn asked. "Can I tell you something?"
"Shoot." Kane said.
"The day I showed up, was something out of the ordinary the night before?"
"Well there was this loud shockwave sound coming from the woods."
"That was me..." Cenn exclaimed.
"You? What do you mean it was you?"
Cenn explained the entire situation to Kane, telling him every little detail.
"I see..." Kane was deep in thought. "That's very different. I've never heard of an Omnishard doing something like that before..."
"Well what do they do normally?"
"You've never used your Omnishard before then?"
"No."
"Well, an Omnishard allows the control of elemental magic. Such as fire, water, air, earth, and so on."
"Can you teach me?" Cenn had a bright look in his eyes.
"I'm not the person to go to for that. You would want the one of the soldiers or someone who knows a lot about the stuff to teach you."
"I see..."
"You know, you can live with me."
Cenn looked up at Kane. "You would let me?"
"Of course! I mean, you have already been a resident for a month. Why stop?"
"Thanks!"
"No problem, bud."
"I'm going to sleep. I'm really tired." As he said this, his wings drooped down and his vibrant blond hair fell in front of his face.
"Alright. You can go to sleep. Tomorrow we can get you a haircut, too."
"Yeah..."
Cenn went to the room where he had been sleeping before, and he jumped into the air, gliding down into his bed. He landed on his back and looked at his new metal leg. He closed his eyes, with the image of his family still ingrained in his mind. His mother was mouthing something to him. She was saying, "Just hold on, sweetie. Your life is about to begin anew."
