Keri walked down the stairs from the war room. Construction was still being done on the main entrance, and they were still setting up some turrets, just as Keri ordered. She was the right hand now, so she made most of those decisions. She came across her old partner, Sera.
"So," she said, "how's the first week of the job?" She gave a little friendly punch in the arm.
"It's great," Keri responded, "but it's really tiring..."
"We haven't had an attack since you threw that bomb into the crowd. Your intuition saved us from that. I'm actually surprised you weren't appointed sooner." Sera smiled at her.
"Thanks, Sera," Keri replied.
"Don't mention it."
"I can't believe I've come this far..."
"Yeah," Sera said, "Your parents were murdered, your brother killed the man, and then he died from severe injury. Or at least that's what the general said when he brought you here. He said his leg was all disfigured and bleeding all over the place. Not to mention he was in the middle of a crat-"
Keri looked at Sera with a furious look in her eyes.
"I've told you this before, Sera," she turned to look at her face to face, "Cenn. Is not. Dead."
"Keri," Sera started, "don't you think it's time that you accept the fact that your brother isn't coming back? He's dead, Keri. The General said-"
"I DONT CARE WHAT THE GENERAL SAID!!" Keri stormed away.
Ever since the day she got there she denied her brother's death. They told her that she was just holding onto hope, that she was just in denial, but still, seven years later, she denies her brother's death. She agrees with everyone that her parents died, as she was there to see them get killed. But she never saw him die. The last she saw of Cenn, he was enveloped in a heavenly blue glow, and he punched the man who had intruded her house. Then, everything just went white. After that she woke up in the infirmary in the Resistance HQ.
She refused to believe her beloved brother was dead.
She went off to find the General. It was about time he explained something.
She went back up to the General's office. She slammed the door open. General Odin did not look amused.
"What are you doing here, Rat?" He said in an angry tone.
"I need to ask you something." She closed the door behind her.
"What do you want..." He said.
"I want to know everything about the day I was taken here."
The General recoiled.
"Fine..." He said. "It was a normal day, I was in my office and we had just fought off some Black Fist soldiers. I was looking through the reports when I found the body count of the soldiers. There were 124 soldier bodies. The report of their sight, however, counted 125. That meant one of them wandered off. I gathered some 300 Resistance fighters and told them to scout the entire south country to find that soldier. I just happened to be the one who found you. I found the body of the soldier at least five meters from where you were. And you body was about five meters from a huge crater, with your supposed brother in the middle."
"If you found my body," she sad, "then why didn't you take Cenn's body?"
"I didn't take it for two reasons." He put up his index finger. "One. His injuries would've just made him a nuisance. His leg was badly injured, as I have told you before, and taking him would make him a burden on the Resistance. On top of that, he was already dead to me. With his injuries, even with the best medical treatment, he would've died." He put up his middle finger beside his index. "And two. I didn't trust him."
Keri grew angry. "Didn't trust him?! You literally just saw him!!"
"There was or factor that made me not trust him." He looked at her in the eye. "His Omnishard."
Now she was furious. "What are you even talking about?! Just because Cenn had an Omnishard doesn't mean he's a threat to us! He's my brother, he wouldn't have done that to me or the Resistance! How could you just assume-"
"Many of the Black Fist members have Omnishards," he interrupted. "I couldn't risk him being tempted by people of his own kind-"
"People of his own kind?! Are you listening to yourself?! Cenn was a good boy! He was the best brother in the entire world!! We were our own kind!!" Tears started streaming down her face. "Don't you see these wings?! I know they are small, but they are there! Cenn had wings like these...except much larger. He could soar through the air, and he often took me with him. The sky was so beautiful... I wish I could have that back. I wish I could have Cenn back..." She started sobbing with her head in her hands.
Odin got up and rubbed her back.
"I'm sorry," he said, "I'm so sorry I did this to you..."
"I just want him back..." She said.
"I know..."
And they sat there for a while. It was about an hour later. Keri was in her room, looking at old photos that she had salvaged from where her house used to be. She looked at the most recent photo of her and Cenn. She was eight, and Cenn was ten. The picture was of them flying through the air, with her on Cenn's back and Cenn looking up at her smiling face. She loved her brother so much. She wished she could have him back in her life. She held the picture close to her chest, and made a wish. She wished for her brother to come and find her. For her brother to come and save her from this cruel world. Her wish seemed to have come true, for after that, the siren sounded.
She grabbed her d-eagles and her shotgun, and she kissed the photo. She grabbed another one of her homemade bombs, and ran out the door.
Gunfire and magic blasts flew everywhere. There were more soldiers than in the last attack, and the front entrance was still under construction. They were cornered. All they could do now was fight their seemingly last battle.
Keri yelled as she jumped down from the stairs with her d-eagles blazing.
Soldiers dropped left and right, and everyone was thankful that Keri was there to help them through this. A soldier tried to shoot a magic blast from behind her, but she dodged it and shot him in the head. Tears streamed down her face. If this was her last battle, than she might as well go out with a bang. She was sad that she wouldn't be able to see her brother again, but she was glad she was going to die knowing she did her best.
A soldier shot another blast at her. She was unable to dodge this one. She watched as the blast of fire streamed towards her.
But just as she accepted her fate, someone went in front of her, and blocked the attack.
It was an older boy, with dark skin and black hair. He had a shield that seemed to be made of crystal. It completely absorbed the fire ball.
"You should watch out for those." He said. She was stunned. Where had he come from? He wasn't anywhere near her a second ago. She looked around. Soldiers were dropping like flies. Keri was shocked. How could this be? It's almost like there were more people here than before. But it didn't seem like it.
Then suddenly a shockwave from the middle of the crowd of soldiers blew everyone in the room back against the wall. Keri slammed into the wall.
She looked up at where the shockwave had originated.
There stood a boy of about 17 years old, dirty blond hair, and about five feet and ten inches tall. He looked like any normal boy, except for one thing.
He had wings.
Keri started to cry. Was this a dream? This had to be a dream.
He turned around to face where Keri was.
His eyes were completely white.
Just like her brother's.
He smiled at her.
The dark skinned boy was next to her, and he said, "Come on, Cenn, you didn't have to do that..."———————
Keri's dreams have come true!!! Cenn is back!!! But how did he get there? Find out in the next chapter! Thanks for reading guy! Don't forget to tell all of your friends!!
