Danny POV
As we walked I wanted to just say a million things to Emily. I wanted to say that there was a surprise party waiting for them to my parents, just to ease the emotions coming from my dad. I wanted to just figure out why I'm such a fool with my mouth when it comes to Emily.
She's the only person I can't act all tough and scary too. She sees right through me and knows who I am deep inside. She's the only person I've ever let get close to me and have a glance at my true heart.
Emily is the girl of my dreams and the one I love in reality.
As we approach the front doors, Emily steps to the side and answers a text while I open the door to allow my parents to walk in first.
My parents passed up Emily and she put her phone away and gave me a smile.
"I have one smart cookie." I say to myself as I walk through the doors after her.
When I walked in the restaurant I saw that my sisters had the entire place reserved. "Nothing is too good for a Rhiner." I whisper to myself when I came and stood behind Emily as she stood in awe at the place.
The scene before my eyes is one that I couldn't imagine before this whole contract became part of my life. There was a huge table with only family sitting and waiting. There was a banner saying happy anniversary along with elegant decorations.
This time last year I would have stopped by the house to see my parents drop off a gift and give them an excuse to leave as quickly as possible to avoid family functions.
Before Emily, I took what it means to be loved and to have a family for granted. Before Emily I had nothing to live for besides to be rich and to work. I had no one that was waiting for me at home each and every day.
My mothers words of excitement brought me out my thoughts.
"Dan! Look at this! Oh my goodness! I can't believe that this is all for us!"
The look on my mom's face was priceless. She was happy to have a party for her and my dad more importantly to know that they are loved by their kids. She was like a kid on Christmas morning.
Maybe Emily is here to save our family and bring it back together. As life goes on we all get busy with our own agenda. Since Emily has been part of the picture my dad is willing to take more days off, I've found joy in hanging out with my sisters and family events are better than ever. She's my saving grace and I love her dearly, I love my beautiful sunshine.
After all the greetings were exchanged we all took our seats. I look around but feel weird about this situation. I don't know how to explain it but something is off and doesn't feel right.
I look towards the head of the table and see my dad. I know he hates this type of stuff but he looks pissed off and I think it's directed at me, his anger.
My dad finally looks over at me and just rolls his eyes, scowl, and shake his head in disappointment when we make eye contact.
"What the hell did I do?" I whisper to myself.
Just then I look around the table before settling my eyes to see Amelia and Matt. They are so happy when you see them together. They look at each other and you can see the love radiating from each of them.
I then look at the high chair right behind them where baby Evelyn is sitting. When she was born you swore that was Matt's first child. The way he acted and talked about the baby.
When I see this I think about me and Emily. I think about what if we were to start a family and how our lives will change.
The thing is there's something wrong and I can't put my finger on it. I don't know why but I feel a distance between Emily and myself more and more since she came home from England.
