Danny POV
"Boy and boy. Girl and girl. Boy and girl. Or is it girl and boy?" I think to myself as I wait by the front door for Emily.
I hear her footsteps coming down the stairs. As I look in the direction she's coming the thought of having a third one growing inside her popped in my head.
"Good morning Dann-"
"What if there's a third one!" I suddenly yell out as the thought of there being three little monsters running around now frightens me more than ever.
Emily gives me this weird look as I go on about what if theres a third child and what a chaos our house will be.
I feel Emily's hand on my arm. I look down at her and she has the most worried look on her face. "Danny, did you forget that we just went to the doctor's appointment a week ago? Did you forgot that we got to see our two precious miracles? Did you forget that you went on a spiral of fear while we were there asking if there was third or even fourth child? Also did you forget that you called me fat, by basically saying that I was too big to be carrying just two kids and insisted that she double check to make sure?"
"Haha, oh yeah I must be losing my mind or something." I say to her as I let out a nervous laugh.
"Honestly, I think you lost that a long time ago." She said as she shrugged her shoulders and walked out the front door. "Come on, your family is expecting us and Collin is waiting in the car already." And just like that she was slowly becoming the old Emily, no more nervous and scared when she walked out of the house.
I look in the rear view mirror and I see Collin sitting in the backseat. He's not the same kid I met when I first starting seeing his sister. I thought he was changing for the better becoming more independent and serious about his education and future. Little did I know that not only was he suffering from the loss of love by not having his parents anymore, by almost losing his sister, but also by being bullied at school. I thought that when I came into their lives and gave them enough money and spoiled not only her but also him, well I just thought the kids would want to be around him and he could go have fun with them without worrying about money. Little did I know before entering their lives that money isn't the answer to everything but that's all I knew and I was wrong.
I know he's almost done with school, but maybe it's time to just make him switch schools so he's not so miserable.
"When I promised to love and protect your sister, I also promised to do the same for you." I think to myself as I look at the road ahead of us.
"Collin?" I hear Emily say next to me.
I look in the mirror and I see him fast asleep in the backseat.
"Emily, is he feeling okay? It's only one o'clock and he went to bed early last night. Honestly there's no reason for him to be asleep."
"He didn't look sick this morning when I saw him in the kitchen. And he didn't have a cough or runny nose. Do you think we should just turn around and head home?"
"Why would ask something like that?"
"If he's not in the mood or if he is feeling bad don't you think it would be better to get him home."
"Em, we promised my parents to go over."
"I know, but maybe you could pull over for a few minutes and we could wake him up and see what's going on. Then decide what we should do. If he's not feeling well just drop us off and go see your parents. They would understand."
I rub my face and do as she said I pull over onto the side of the road. We sit there waiting to see if it was just the car ride that made him sleepy before waking him up.
