A non-specified amount of time later.........
Kanan's POV
Finally! They're back. Took them long enough.
But, it wasn't Saw's ship. It was a carrier. So, where was Saw? He had a lot of explaining to do about keeping the three of them.
The ship landed on the platform and opened the hatch.
Ezra, Sarah, and Sabine were at the front, followed by twenty-ish strangers. I was shocked by not only the extra people there, but the fact that Saw wasn't with them.
The three of them have sort of nervous smiles and came to us. "We couldn't leave them with the Empire." Sabine said as soon as she saw my face of confusion.
"Where's Saw?" Hera said in a bitter voice.
"Left." Sarah explained what happened. I just nodded.
"Ezra, Sarah, a minute?" They followed me into an empty room on base. "Did something happen when you were with Saw?" Both of them shook their heads. "Really? Because... because I felt something from one of you two. Something bad."
There was silence until Ezra spoke up, "I felt something, too. Someone turning evil."
I looked over at Sarah. She looked down. "Sarah?" I asked.
She mumbled to us, "I think I turned."
"You think?!" Ezra said. "You definitely did."
I sensed Sarah since I couldn't see how she was feeling. She was terrified. "Who did I hurt?" she finally asked.
Ezra looked at her questionably. "What?"
"Did I hurt anyone? Kill anyone?"
"No," Ezra said, "but you scared the heck out of Sabine and me." He tried to laugh it off, but it still came off as fear.
And Sarah sensed that, too. "Ezra, I don't know why it happened. I wish I could control it, and believe me, I have tried. I am truly sorry for making you, Sabine," she turned to me, "and you scared. I just don't know why it happens."
With that, she left without a word. Ezra and I looked at each other. "Kanan," Ezra asked, "what's going on with her? It's like she's afraid of us."
I sighed. "I don't know, Ezra. Maybe she's afraid of hurting us."
Ezra shrugged. "I guess that could be it." Then, he looked confused. "But, Kanan, why is she always shutting us out? We could be helping her instead of being afraid of her."
I put my hand on his shoulder. He was almost about to pass me in height. "People have different ways of coping with stress and fear. She shuts down, which isn't very good. But, in times like these, she reverts back to her old hiding ways. Just give her some time. She'll come back to us eventually."
I walked out to help the rest of the rebellion with gathering up the prisoners....
And to find out what the heck Saw Gerrara did to make Sarah angry.
Ezra's POV
It's really saddening that Sarah shuts everyone out. If I get scared, the one thing I want is to be around people to give me comfort.
After Kanan left, I went to Sarah's room in the extra cabins area of the base. Maybe she went there.
I knocked on the door.
No answer.
I opened the door just to find an empty, tidy room. I sighed and closed the door, continuing my search for my sister.
I felt something. Something sad.
No, beyond sad.
Complete and total fear.
As I walked to the west, I felt it grow stronger. I went into a full sprint, not having a care in the world where I was going. I had to see if it was Sarah.
I started losing the strength of it. I slowed down, closed my eyes, and used the Force to find it.
There! It was moving to the right. I followed it.
It moved down. I continued to follow it.
Left. Up. Right. Down. Left.
Wait a minute.....
I opened my eyes.
I was in the same place I had started. It finally hit me.
I was following myself.
I sat down, on the brink of tears. I was terrified of her. Of what she could do to me.
She could kill me and never know, never care.
We might complete the Prophecy after all.
I heard footsteps, but I still sat in silence. The person sat down next to me. I still didn't look up.
We sat in silence for a while until they put their hand on my shoulder. That's when the waterworks broke.
I poured out my tears into my hands. I cried and cried; I couldn't stop. All of my bottled up emotions exploded in that minute of freedom.
"I'm sorry." the voice whispered.
I looked up.
It was Sarah.
Instinctively, I jumped back away from her. She coiled her hand back out of instinct, as well.
"I know you're afraid of me. Please, let me explain what hap--"
"Why?!" I asked hysterically.
She sighed. "Because we need to get back to base. We've got a mission to take care of?"
I asked her bitterly, "Oh, yeah? Why do you want me? And don't just say because I'm your brother."
She shook her head. "It's not just that." Tentatively, she sat down next to me.
"Because we're going back to Lothal."
Finally done with this chapter!!
I wanted a big buildup to going back to Lothal. I didn't mean for it to be this long, though.
Oh well.
