ethan stared at his best friend, grayson, longingly. he would never admit to himself the feelings he felt for the younger boy, never.
they both once considered being more than friends, mostly laughing at their ship name, grethan.
that phase ended quickly, but both of their feelings only grew for each other.
"ethan, you're staring at me." grayson chuckled, shoving ethans shoulder as they sat at graysons kitchen table doing homework.
"what? no i am not." ethan defended himself quickly, "i was looking behind you at that painting." the older boy continued to lie.
"right, well, did you get number six?" grayson asked, looking down at his worksheet before plopping his pencil between his lips.
"i was admiring that amazing painting, remember?" ethan smirked while continuing to stare at his best friend.
"i remember now, thanks." grayson shook is head playfully, "you're so stupid, ethan dolan."
"mhm" the older boy hummed, never taking his eyes off of grayson as he studied his math worksheet.
he loved how he would chew on the eraser of his pencil as he concentrated, and the way his eyes squinted just the slightest bit.
"ethan.. stop.." grayson groaned before lifting his head up to look at his friend. he could feel the older boy staring at him.
"stop what?" he frowned, drumming his fingers along the table nervously.
"stop.. admiring the painting" he murmured, knowing ethan would argue if he said himself, "it's not that pretty"
"oh, but grayson, it's very pretty" ethan smirked, sitting up straighter.
"then stop admiring me! i'm not pretty!" grayson screamed, not knowing why he was so mad.
"i'm sorry" finally, ethans eyes removed themselves from the other boy, going down to his paper.
they were both silent for the longest time. none of them knew what to say. silence was a foreign subject to the boy's because nothing had ever gotten that heated.
"no, i'm sorry. i shouldn't have yelled." "i shouldn't have been staring at you like you're the love of my life"
ethan blushed. grayson was the love of his life, but neither of them knew it.
"i don't mind. i'm pretty fucking gorgeous." grayson chuckled.
"way more gorgeous than that painting" the older boy added, pointing over at it.
"really?" grayson was stunned, he was only joking before, "yes, of course"
grayson couldn't take it any longer. he leaned over the table before pressing their lips together softly.
"do best friends do that?"
"no, but we do"
