Chapter 14

"What did he say?" Iris asked Eva.

"He said he's going to pick me up, I texted him my address last night."

Tessa asked, "What else did he say?"

"He called me baby." Eva said rather sheepishly.

"Awwwwwwwwwww," Tessa crooned.

"He's totally into you, Evangeline," Iris cheered. She used my full name, she only does that when it's serious.

Eva said, "I'm nervous."

"Don't be, just talk about things you both like," Tessa says.

"I guess I could."

Eva sent her friends home and she waited for Ashley. She heard a knock at her door. Her heart sent out a small burst of adrenaline through her core and her veins. That feeling you get when it's almost your turn to do an oral report in class. She ran down the wooden stair case and checked herself in the mirror by the front door. She opened it with a start. Ashley stood there looking absolutely gorgeous. He wore a tight fitting black shirt with a grey vest and tight jeans. His long hair hugged his face. He smelled absolutely divine.

"Hey Eva," he nonchalantly greeted.

"Hi,"

"Wow, you look stunning," he said admiringly. Her face flushed.

"May I come in?"

Eva gestured for him to come inside. She lead him out of the foyer and into the enormous living area.

"Wow," he stated, his mouth agate as he looked at all the furniture in the room, the vast space. Eva's family had quite the bank account.

"I guess I should be so shocked-- the neighborhood is awesome looking, the houses are so big in this sub division. What's it called?"

"The neighborhood is called Treeline," Eva told him. He sat on a white couch and motioned for her to join him. She sat down and their hands touched. Ugh, my palms are sweaty.

"So what do you want to do?" he asked you.

"We can chill out here for awhile,"

He smiled. A perfect all teeth smile. It made her heart leap.

"How've you been?" he asked her.

"I've been fine, just a little flustered. And you?"

"My last two days have been bitter sweet," he says while looking at his hands in his lap.

"How so?"

"Well it's been sweet because I met you, and we kissed at the recreation park, it's all been very nice," he said soulfully. Eva's heart was beating way too fast, I wonder if he can feel it.

"--and it's kind of bitter because I'm leaving first thing tomorrow," he said. It was like an entire hurricane pouring down on her parade. Ashley's mood got a bit dark.

"I wish we had more time," Eva said. She wishes she had 1,000 years with him alone. Ashley squeezed her hand.

"At least we had our fun," he said.

"At least..." she repeated. He sensed her discontent.

"But in a few weeks the tour will be over and I can come visit you," He said, his mood brightening. It brightened Eva's too.

"Let's go up to my room,"

Ashley looked at her with disbelief.

"Look Evangeline, you're beautiful and amazing in all the ways a person can be, but you're 16 and I don't want to get accused of rape--"

"--I mean to just hang out!" Eva cut him off. Ashley laughed. Her giggles filled the air around them too.

"Lead the way," he said with a smirk. As she started ascending the staircase he suddenly grabbed her arm, she turned to look at him. Without hesitation and with relish he kissed her. Eva counted the kisses in her head. 5..6..7..............15..16................37.. 38. Ashley pulled away smiling. A pure all American smile.

"I'll-um-lead the way," she said. They made it up to her bedroom. Eva sat on her love seat and Ash walked around touching everything.

"Wow, you really do have everything," was the first thing he said.

Eva said, "Not everything."

Ashley turned to look at Eva. He cocked his head to one side, he looked as if he was trying to decide something, Eva couldn't decode his thoughts.

Eva poured them some coke in the kitchen. Ashley sat on a red barstool.

"Okay okay, least favorite book?" Eva asked.

"Hmmmm. That's tough. Probably To Kill a Mockingbird."

"What? That's a classic."

"Well I hated it."

Eva and Ashley talked a bit more until he asked, "Wanna go to the record store?"

What? The record store? Those still exist? I've never been to one. I've never even touched a vinyl before.

It was like Ashley could read her thoughts, "Come on, Evangeline, it'll be fun," she felt an electric shock in her chest at the sound of her full first name coming out of his mouth.

"Yes, I'd love to."
