I was very nervous about meeting my dublura, Maria Danciu. Austin, Texas felt a million miles away as we drove through the outskirts of Sighisoara and headed south to Brasov. From there we would be continuing to Bucharest where George and I would spend a day seeing the sights before returning to the States.

Laura had stayed behind with a migraine, so it was just George, me and Eddie on this trip. Already I missed my female cousin's company, her dark imagination and under-the-breath commentary about people we passed in the streets — total strangers whom she guessed from their looks were having love affairs or plotting murders. She would have been a perfect ally in the meeting with Maria Danciu, definitely a force of nature judging by all the attention I'd been getting.

As we got closer to Brasov my nervousness increased. The drive took an hour-and-a-half. Our appointment was set for two o'clock and we arrived an hour ahead of schedule, so we found a parking spot — no easy feat — and got out of the car to explore. After the small Saxon towns we'd been visiting, Brasov, population just shy of 400,000, was a bustling city ringed by mountains: big modern buildings at its edges, an old-world, medieval town at its core.
