➵Thirty Five

"Can I get your name?" the lady at the cashier asks.

I bit my lip, remembering what I'm doing. "Uh... Lizzy," I panic. I panicked and said, Lizzy. Of course, my usual code name is Stacy but I completely forgot what I was doing. Too caught up the fun of ice cream.

Jason was frowning, holding one cup of triple scooped ice cream. Two mint chocolate, one strawberry. It has chocolate hot fudge, gummy bears, marshmallows, cherries, rainbow sprinkles and fresh strawberries, whipped cream and cookie dough balls. The other cup is just one scoop of Neopolitan. No sprinkles, no gummies, no nothing. That's sad. When I look at an ice cream bowl like that, it just makes me sad.

When Jason goes to pay, I steal his ice cream bowl. He doesn't notice me. He's too busy to ward off the flirty ice cream lady. Seriously, I get that she's lonely and wants a man but I'm trying to get ice cream! She can wait 'till then.

I look over my shoulder while walking to the toppings bar. When I walk back, someone how Jason's cup was filled with rainbow sprinkles, whipped cream, hot caramel fudge, brownie bits, cookies, oreo bits, chocolate chips, gummy worms, a gummy key and some giant marshmallows. I don't know how it happened but it's there and there's nothing he can do about it.

"What the hell did you do to my ice cream?" Jason asks, dumbfounded by the look. It looked like it was going to explode from the bowl.

I smile at him sheepishly. "Nothin'...." I innocently put the bowl on the counter and smile up at him and the ice cream lady.

Jason looks like he wants to say something but he doesn't. He keeps his mouth shut and just finishes paying for the treats.

INCOMING MESSAGES

Damian:

"Echo, where did you go?"
"Father was waiting for you."

Echo:

"Yeah. I went out with Jason to get food"
"Hope you don't mind"

Damian:

"I don't but a warning would have been appreciated."
"I'm glad you're getting along with your brother."

Echo:

"Erhm, yeah"
"Srry about the warning thing"
"This trip was last minute."

Damian:

"Are you having fun?"

Echo:

"Erhm, yeah"

Damian:

"When are you going to be back?"

Echo:

"Erhm, Idk"

Damian:

"What's going on with you?"

Echo:

"Erhm, nothing"

Damian:

"Your act would be a lot more convincing if you wouldn't typing 'Erhmm, nothing'!"

Echo:

"What are you talking about?"

Damian:

"You!"
"Echo, first you're mad at me this morning for calling you, Alice. Next, you barely say a word to me all day. And now, this."
"What's wrong? Is it something I've done."

Echo:

"No comment"

Damian:

"Forget it, Echo. I'll see you when you get back to the cave."

Echo:

"It's nothing you did!"
"Okay?!"
"I just need some time alone"
"Stop crowding me!"

Damian:

"I told you. Forget about it."

Echo:

"What if I don't wanna forget about it?"

Damian:

"Well, I'm not giving you a choice."

Echo:

"So that's what you're mad about?"
"All because I want you to be safe and away from me, you're pissed?"

Damian:

"Of course I'm upset!"
"You can't expect me to forget about you so easily!"

Echo:

"Why not?!"
"It's not that hard! Just move on and find some other chicks live with!"

Damian:

"You cannot expect it to be easy for me! What's the matter with you?!"
"Why are you so mixed up?! I get that you didn't have an easy life for yourself but neither did I!"
"I get that you have commitment issues and a brother that doesn't love you but that doesn't mean you can't love someone else! Let alone let someone else love you!"

Echo:

"We're done talking here."

Damian:

"That's right Echo!"
"You always run away from everything!"
"You're running away from your problems, from me and from your own family!"
"I cannot even begin to comprehend why someone like me would ever love someone like you."
