Kabanata IX: "Unexpected"

“What happened.” I opened my eyes and I see Adelaine in my side, sleeping? Where Am I? in the hospital? What happened. Ki-nulbit ko si Adelaine at bigla siyang nagising.

“Oh, gising ka na pala. Buti naman, akala ko natrap ka na sa panaginip ko.” Nagulat siya sa sinabi niya. “I mean, akala ko nalunod ka sa sarili mong dugo sa pagkainip ko!” what?

“What? What happened?”

“Nawalan ka ng malay. Hindi mo naman sinasabi sa akin na may Anemia ka pala. Sandali, sino ba ako para pagsabihan mo. Quiet lang ako.”

“Yah, I am anemic and bata palang ako ng nadiagnose ito. Pero don’t worry, It had been long time ago since the last time na nahimatay ako because of Anemia. Wait, what time is it?”

“Seven fifthy-five in the evening.” What?

“How long since I admitted here?”

“3 hours exactly.” She smiled to me. She opened a bag containing some container with food in it. “Kumain ka raw sabi ni Tita Lou. Umuwi muna ako saglit kanina para magpaalam na samahan ka. She said na you eat this. Specialty niya ito so kailangan ubos mo ito.”

“Sa-lamat. So let’s eat?” She gave me spoon and fork but I refused. “No, magkakamay ako. This is how Filipinos eat sometimes. Am I correct. Right?”

“Right! Tara na kumain na tayo para mabawi mo ang lakas mo. Pero teka, kanina napadaan ako sa National Bookstore. And I had a bright idea. I bought something for you na sa tingin ko naman is worthy and big help for you.”

“Wow! What’s your gift?” I said. I am excited because this is the first time to accept a gift from someone who I didn’t related to. I usually rejected gifts from someone who I didn’t know or not close to. But from Adelaine? I will accept it. Even if it is worth a penny.

“This!” She gave me something big. It’s wrapped with a  gift wrapper. “Open it and I’m sure it will help you a lot.” I open it and I received a…

“English-Tagalog Dictionary? Wow! This helps me a lot! Thank you! This is special gift from a special friend.” I hugged her without noticing that I do it. Bakit parang may kakaiba? Halatang nagulat din siya sa ginawa ko. Bumitaw nalang ako, tinabi muna ang dictionary and focus on my plate. After I eat the delicious food her Tita Lou gave, I brushed my teeth, she gave me a towel. She said she will sleep in the couch, so I turn off the lampshade beside me and sleep with a smile.  

But I can’t sleep well because there’s something that I need to clarify. Last week, I almost hurt her and all kind of bad deeds I did to her. I said I can survive without her help. But is she’s good enough that all of what I did to her, forget it and still continue as my personal tutor and now like personal maid. I need to do something to return her kindness. I get up, and bring my dextrose so I can pee in the C.R but when I finished, I saw how Adelaine sleep. Nakakatawa siya, nakanganga.

On the next day…

She approached me and said that she need to go to class because Ms.De Luna will give test in Economics subject. She leave the room and I started my plan to say sorry for all what I’ve done even I said sorry to her yesterday. I get my notebook and start planning.
