chapter fourteen

"when i close my eyes, i see you. when i open my eyes, i see you."

It was midnight. I wrote a note to Paige and placed it on my bed so she can find it. I feel kind of bad about doing this, but, I need to find Hayden.

I grab my backpack and quietly tip toe to Hayley's room. I open the door slowly, being careful not to make a noise. She was fast asleep.

I silently walk over to her and plant a small, sweet kiss on her head. "I love you Hayley." I whisper. I walk back out and close to door. I walk back to my room and open the window.

It's pretty far down. Should I jump? "For Hayden." I tell myself. I close my eyes and jump down. Trying so hard not to scream. I landed in a bush, which had thorns.

"Ouch!" I squeal in pain. I quickly and quietly get out of the bush and sneak to the parking area. I tap my foot impatiently for Jayden and Kenz.

"Psst! Annie!" I heard someone whisper. I turn around and see Jayden in the passenger seat with her window rolled down. I smile and get in the back seat.

"So you have any idea where he might be?" Kenzie asked, keeping her eyes on the road. "No idea, but he said he's in some ghost town." I said looking down at the note he gave me.

"How do you know?" Jayden asked. I explain everything to them. By everything I mean the night Hayden came to my house and left.

"What if he's not even in the state?! Omg, what if he's not in the country! WHAT IF HES OUT OF THE CONTENT! He may be a Russian spy for all we know." Kenzie blabbed.

Jayden and I laughed at her ridiculous thoughts. "Kenzie, chill. I'm pretty sure he's not a Russian spy. And I think he's still in California." I giggled. "Yeah," she sighed. "I guess your right."

We've been driving for a couple hours. We stopped at a motel for the night. It had two beds and a pullout couch. For all I know were in a small city called vacaala. We walk up to the room.

We have confused faces at how small it is. "Well then." Jayden stated. "I'll take the pull out couch." I insist. "Are you sure Anns." Kenzie asked. "Positive. Now, let's get ready for bed. We have a long day ahead of us." I said, walking over to the couch.

I was the last one to use the bathroom. As I was brushing my wet hair, I saw someone in the mirror. I panicked and I saw "Hayden" I whispered to myself. He gave me a smirk.

I turn my head around so fast it might've given me a whip lash. But when I did, he was no where to be seen.

I look back into the mirror and there he was again, with that smirk of his. "Hey beautiful. I missed you." He said, inching closer to me. I turned (yes again) and I could see him.

"Is that really you?" I asked. He shook his head. "No. But I am here to tell you your closer to finding me." He said. Then, he disappeared into the air. He poofed away. Literally.

I shake my head and walk back out. "Night girlie." Kenzie said raspy. Jayden was already asleep. "Night Kenz." I said walking out to the pullout couch. I sigh and snuggle up underneath the blankets.
