chapter twenty-four

I woke up this morning with the police at my door. They've been asking questions about Hayden and I just keep denying them.

I'm never going to sell him out like that. But, the police keeps getting more suspicious. They don't know Hayden's back in LA.

It was on the news one morning about finding two dead bodies with a gun. But that's not what they suspect Hayden on.

They think Hayden stole something. Which obviously he wouldn't do. He's Hayden! Anyways, I'm still panicking about my dad.

What's up with him? I have so many questions filling my head I can't even concentrate on anything else.

My phone started so I answered it.

annie- hello?
jayden- hey annie! wanna hangout today?
annie- sure! what time and where?
jayden- the local ice cream shop in one hour.
annie- sounds good! see you there

I turn set my phone down and go to my room to get ready. After awhile of picking out the perfect outfit, I revive a message from Paige.

paige- hey annie! how have things been?
annie- pretty good! but i miss you and hayley
paige- we do too. but we'll be back before you know it.
annie- hope you're right. i gtg. bye paige!
paige- bye annie banannie!

I smile and place my phone down.

Since it was almost time to hang with Jayden, I walk over to the ice cream parlor. Yes, I was there and not ride a car like every other teen.

I smile as I smell cold, yummy ice cream. "Annie!" Jayden said, walking over to me and pulling me into a hug. I give her a one of a kind best friend hug.

"We haven't talked in like almost forever!" She squealed. "I know!" I replied. Jayden and I grabbed our ice creams and sat back down.

"How's things with Conner?" I asked taking a bite of my cookie dough ice cream. "Eh. To be honest, sometimes I feel like he doesn't like me." She said sadly.

"Trust me Jay, he loves you! You guys are seriously couple goals." I smiled. She returned a weak smile back.

"How about you and Hayden?" Jayden asked. "We're pretty good." I smiled.

Jayden and I talked about random topics and just catching up on each others lives. I told her about my dad.

"That's awful." She frowned. "I know. I don't even know what he wants." I sighed. Jayden and I threw our empty ice cream bowls away.

-4 hours later-

I was cuddled up in a blanket, scrolling through my phone until I got a message from Hayden.

hayden- annie, we need to talk
annie- of course
hayden- meet me outside your apartment

I left my phone and walked down to the lobby. I walked out and saw Hayden with his cute, messy curly hair.

I walked up to him. "Hey." I smiled. "Annie.." he looked nervous. Scared almost. "What's wrong?" I asked, tilting my head a little.

"I, I can't be with you anymore." He said, looking down at his feet. I teared up a bit. "W-What?" I stuttered. He was joking right?

"I'm sorry Annie. I love you, but I can't. I can't hurt you anymore." He said.

Hayden's Pov

That's not true. I love Annie with all my heart. Some guy named Harvey forced me too. Apparently he was a friend of Marcos. He said if I don't break up with Annie, he'll kill her.

She looked so hurt, it's all my fault. "I'm so sorry Annie." I mumbled. She just looked at me in disbelief and ran back to her apartment.

Annie's Pov

After all this time, I thought Hayden Summerall was the one for me. I thought he actually loved me. Why?

I'm crying my heart out right now and he probably doesn't even care.

"You left me broken." I sobbed to myself.
