chapter fifteen

"Annie! Wake up!" I felt Jayden shaking me. "I'm up I'm up." I said, slowly sitting up groggily. "Let's hit the road soon, I'm gonna go grab some breakfast for us. Kenz is in the shower." Jayden said heading out the door.

I stretched my arms and grabbed my phone. 15 miss calls and 87 text messages from Paige.

Oops.

I'm thinking weather or not to call her. If I do, she'll track my phone. If I don't, she'll think I'm in danger. I decide to message her.

Annie- Paige, I'm totally fine.
Paige- JULIANNA GRACE LEBLANC! Where are you!?
Annie- Chill Paige, I'm fine. I'm finding Hayden.
Paige- Annie! Come home! He's gone.
Annie- I'm not giving up Paige! I love him! What would you do if Curtis was gone? You would go looking for him. It's love Paige. And I though you would've understood.
Paige- Fine. Call me everyday to make sure you're okay. Love you and stay safe. Bring him home.
Annie- Thank you Paige! I love you and promise not to let you down.

I smiled and tossed my phone on the pullout couch. "Hey Annie." Kenzie said coming out of the bathroom. "Morning Kenzie." I said walking past her into the shower.

After getting ready, Jayden was back with the breakfast. "So, what's the plan?" Kenzie asked before drinking the orange juice.

"I don't exactly know." I said, half paying attention. I was busy with what I heard Haydens voice say. You're close to finding me.

"I think we're near by." I said. "What makes you think that?" Jayden asked. "Just a hunch." I shrugged.

We all cleaned up in the motel, gathering our belongings and heading back to the car. "Let's get some gas before hitting the road." Kenzie suggests. Jayden and I nod and hop in the car.

Hayden's POV
"Hey Hayden! You paying attention?" Jay asked me. "Yeah man." I replied. The shadows and I are in an abandoned drug store. Marco and Jay were blabbering about the next plan.

I couldn't stop thinking about Annie. I hope she's well. I miss her. I miss everything about her.

"Okay Hayden, you're going to stay guard tonight to make sure no one sees us. Take this." Marco said. He handed me something I was stunned by.

He gave me a gun.

"I-I can't take this." I said pushing it back. "What? Why not?" Jay asked a little pissed. "Sorry dude, I'm not going to kill anyone." I said shrugging. He squinted his eyes.

"You're not killing anyone, it's just for protection. We have them too." Jay said. Marco and him pulled their jackets back a bit, showing their guns in their pockets.

I sigh and take the gun. I put it in my pocket not thinking of it to much. It's not like I'm going to use it anyway.

Annie's POV
"I think I know where he might be!" I exclaimed out of nowhere. "Where Annie?" Jayden asked me. "There's an abandoned ghost town not to far from here. Just a couple minutes away." I said, eyeing my phone map.

I gave Kenzie my phone and she put the coordinates on the gps. "Let's go get Hayden!" Jayden said playfully. I smiled at her remark. I hope you're there Hay.

After 25 minutes of driving, we pulled up near and abandoned looking store. "You think this is the place?" Kenzie asked, shivering her words. "This place is creepy." Jayden shuttered.

"You guys stay here," I said taking off my seatbelt. "I'm going inside. I'll signal you if if need you guys." I said, giving them a glare not to say otherwise. The solemnly nodded.

I got out of the car and took a deep breathe. I walked to the door and carefully opened it, trying not to make any noise. "Hayden?" I whisper shouted.

Out of nowhere, I felt an arm wrap around my waist and a hand covering my mouth. "Shhhhh!" The person said. I was shocked and trying to scream.

The person pulled me deeper into the store until we were in a small room. The person removed their arms from me. It was so dark I couldn't see. "What the heck!?" I complained.

"Shh! You're gonna get us caught." The voice said. It sounded oddly familiar. "Ha-Hayden?" I stuttered. He turned on the lights and weakly smiled.

I smiled and teared up. I ran into his arms while he embraced me. "I missed you so much." I whispered. He stroked my hair. "I missed you too. But you have you leave." Hayden said pulling away from the hug.

I looked at him in disbelief. "But, but I just got here." I said, tilting my head. "Annie, it's not safe for you here. Leave, forget about me." Hayden said not believing his words.

"No, I can't. You're my everything Hayden." I said crying a bit. "Annie-" before he could finish his sentence, the door busted open.

Hayden quickly stood in front of me. "Hayden! Who's that?" A guy asked pointing to me. I got closer to Hayden's back. "Chill Jay, she's just a friend." Hayden said.

"Sorry Hayden." He said pulling out a gun. I got scared. So scared I couldn't move. "Annie, go." Hayden said sternly. I obeyed his rules and ran out of the store.

I quickly ran back into the car. "Annie? Why are you crying? What happened!? Is he in there!?" Jayden asked, bombarding me with questions.

I put my finger to my lips, motioning them to be quite. The nod understanding. After awhile of sitting,

We heard a gun shot. We all looked at each other with sacred, nervous faces. "Hayden." I whispered in fear.

I ran out of the car and back into the abandoned store. I run back into the room seeing two dead bodies and Hayden holding a gun. I put my hand to my mouth.

Hayden dropped the gun. "Let's go." He said grabbing my arm. We ran out the store and back into the car. "HAYDEN?!" Jayden and Kenzie yelped in sync. "Drive, I'll explain everything later." Hayden said.
