"Fuck fuck fuck!" I whispered to myself as I paced back and forth in the room.I didn't know what to do but I knew I was scared out of my mind. If he saw me, what would I say? What could I possibly say to him without him wanting to punch me in the face and I felt like I deserved it.
"Grayson c'mon. I know you have a girl here." I heard Ethan's voice and I panicked.
"Ethan I don't!" Grayson protested. I pressed my ear harder on the door.
"I can see her fucking shoes bro. You can't even lie. At least let me meet her." Ethan replied. Shit I took off my shoes and left them. I also left my bag and phone. Fuck.
"We're busy!" Grayson said and I giggled and covered my mouth. He was making it seem so dirty.
"Well keep getting busy, I'm gonna go take a nap." And with that Ethans footsteps got closer to me.
I rushed to go hide in the same closet with the curtains as I did almost 2 years ago, but it wasn't there.
This wasn't Grayson's room. Fuck!
The door knob began to jiggle and I stood there frozen. There was nowhere to run. Nowhere to hide.
I began mentally praying in my head for some miracle to come save me and wished that I had teleportation powers.
I could feel myself sweating and I rubbed my palms together and stood there waiting for the moment his eyes landed on me.
The door opened and Ethans eyes met mine. He wore a black t-shirt with dark blue skinny jeans. He looked good with his new hair style. His features all the same, he had dark circles under his eyes and his hair was messy as usual just shorter.
It took him a minute to take it all in and then he turned and walked straight out. My heart broke into two.
I felt myself collapse inside and I raced after him.
"What the fuck Grayson!" He yelled. I had never heard him yell like that, never so angry. The veins on the side of his neck were visible and he had hints of pink on his cheeks.
"Bro, it's not like that!" Grayson put his hands up in defence in attempt to explain. "We're talking!"
Grayson tried to take hold of Ethans shoulder, but Ethan smacked it away.
"Don't fucking touch me!" Ethan said and gave me a quick glance before slamming the door as he left.
"Grayson." I said out of shock. I didn't know what else to do.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know he'd react like that." He said walking to me.
I left disgusted with myself and terrible. I couldn't even bring myself to cry and express how I was feeling. My feelings were trapped and mixed together.
I sat down and put my face in my palms. Ethan either got the wrong idea about me and Grayson or just hated seeing me. I was hoping it was the second one.
Grayson stood there towering in front of me with a look of sadness on his face.
"I'm gonna go." I said getting up a few moments later and putting on my shoes.
"Don't you wanna wait till he comes back?" He asked.
"He hates me." I said quietly and a tear finally streamed down my face. "I don't blame him. I hate myself for what I did to him. What I did to myself."
"Don't say that." He inched closer trying to comfort him.
"It was nice talking to you Grayson." I said backing away. "I'll text you." I said before leaving and closing the door behind me.
I walked back to my house and took a warm shower to calm my thoughts. It didn't work.
I was restless that night. I kept tossing and turning, the image of Ethans voice and his eyes burning into me. He really hated me and I couldn't handle it.
Grayson called me as soon as I got home and I didn't pick up. I felt horrible, but I didn't want to talk about it. I wanted to pretend it never happened.
I finally had the courage to call him back and he picked up straight away.
"Malika?"
"Hey Gray." I tried to sound happy.
"How are you?"
"I'm okay. How is everything?"
"He's finally talking to me again after I explain everything to him."
"That's good. He was mad at you for speaking to me though, right?" He paused and I got my answer.
"Please come back." Was all he said.
"You can't deny he doesn't hate me."
"Malika-" He said.
"Grayson, I wish I could fix this, but I can't. It just seems to be making things worse."
"I don't give up. You should know that by now." He said seriously. "I spoke to Ethan-"
"He doesn't want to see me!" I argued.
"Malika just listen!" His voice overpowered mine. "I spoke to Ethan and I told him that you and Sandra were gonna come to the warehouse and we'd sort things out."
"And?"
"He nodded." He said and I was hoping he didn't. "He wants to clear the air too."
"Grayson-"
"You're going to come, if our friendships means anything to you?" He said pulling the guilt card on me.
"It means the world to me Grayson."
"So I'll take that as a yes. I'll see you on Wednesday." He said and hung up before I could negotiate.
