Chapter 7: All Of A Sudden

I hated staying after school.

But if it had anything to do with softball, I enjoyed it way to much.

When it came to softball, it was my life.

It kept my mind off of the extraneous situations in my life and instead, I put all of my focus into this game.

"We only have two more games left so we really have to crack down and get to work. We have to keep out title as undefeated" our coach, Miss. Kap, was saying.

We were the East Peak High Lions. We always won.

We were undefeated and no one could beat us.

I wasn’t trying to sound cocky or anything but we had an amazing bunch of girls on the team and this was turning out to be one of our best years.

There were twelve girls in total and we were there for a reason. We deserved to be. We were better than good. We were extraordinary.

"This Saturday will be the last home game against The Cheasapeak Bears. This will be one of the hardest games as well”.

The Bears were good. They were also undefeated. This Saturday would really be a big day. Major.

"In the last game you ladies did a great job but your batting was a little off. Today, batting will be our main focus. You will have to hit the ball three times in a row. This helps because the more successful hits you make, the more home runs you will accumulate".

It was unusual to hear Miss. Kap encourage us to make home runs. She usually only cared about our team work. This Saturday's game was really important to her.

Before we started batting, we had to run laps.

Endurance.

Batting was not as easy as everyone expected it to be.

Some people batted three in a row with no problem. Then there were others who were lucky to bat one in a half.

When it was my turn, I batted three in a row with a breeze.

It was nothing to me. I lived for this sport.

Then there was Ally. She was the worst batter on the team.

Brianna was her pitcher and she was one of the best throwers. This combination would keep us on the field all day.

"Can we please go home?" Jordan Daniels yelled after Ally missed ten throws in a row.

"You’re a team. Once your teammates are successful, you’re free to go" Miss. Kap.

"What the fuck!" Tori said as we were sitting on the sideline watching Ally miss all the throws.

As team captain, this made Tori look bad.

People always ask how Ally could have possibly made the team... Until she ran.

Ally was fast and she was an amazing catcher. The girl had speed. She took out players of the opposing team without breaking a sweat.

But she seriously sucked at batting.

After finally hitting the ball, we all had hope.... Until she missed the next five throws.

"Shoot me now!" Samantha said putting two fingers to her head and using her thumb as the trigger.
