Chapter 16: On The Road

I am totally not a morning person so this wasn't fair to me. Why was this even happening?

Yeah, I wanted to go on this trip but I sure as hell did not want to wake up this early.

This is not fair to any human being. I wonder if any of my other classmates were being violently shaken by their mom just so she could wake them up.

I bet you they aren't.

"Dana, wake up. You're going to be late" my mom said for the fourth time.

"Mom, I'm so up it's not even funny" I mumbled.

"Then get up and get ready. I'm dropping you off on my way to work and I can't be late" she stated pulling the covers from my warm body.

"Thanks" I said sarcastically as I got up and headed to the bathroom to wash my face and brush my teeth.

Today was the day that I had been waiting for and I wasn't nearly as I excited as I was before. My enthusiasm was lost.

With Aaron completely losing interest in me, I wasn't looking forward to anything except hanging with Brianna and Corey.

"Fifteen minutes Dana!" my mom yelled from downstairs.

Quickening my pace, I ran to my closet to find something decent to wear for this exciting eight hour trip.

Big whoop!

Faded light blue skinny jeans and a black "Bite Me" sweatshirt would have to do.

Hair up in a messy bun and five minutes later I was downstairs with all my bags. "Ready" I said to my mom with a fake smile on my face.

"Eat" she said handing me a bagel and a glass of orange juice.

Feisty woman she was being this morning.

"I'll get those" my dad said, taking my bags and heading out to my mom's car.

I stuffed my face with the bagel and drank the orange juice in three big gulps.

"Don't be such a pig" my mom said smacking my hand.

I smiled at her sheepishly.

"Let's get going" she said.

Sprinkle came into the kitchen and began rubbing up against my leg. I picked him up and rubbed my face against his fur. "Bye buddy".

My dad came back inside and kissed my forehead. "Have a wonderful time" he said as I embraced him into a long hug.

"Sure thing" I said trying my hardest not to sound sarcastic.

"Bye sweetie" my mom said kissing my dad.

Like a child, I stuck out my tongue and covered my eyes.

"So mature" my mom giggled as we made our way to the car and off we went.

The car ride was a peaceful one with me leaning against the window tempted to fall back to sleep and my mom bopping away to some jazz station.

A smile came across my face as I began to think about the road trips I use to go on with my parents. As I got older, I considered them lame, but now I just missed them.

"What are you smiling for?" my mom asked.

"Where do you and dad plan on going this summer?"

"We've been thinking about California. You know how your dad has been dying to visit" she said with an amused smile.
