I jumped startled at the tapping noise indicating that someone was trying to get my attention nearby.

Sitting in my second period class at school, history, it was Friday morning and I was not having a good day so far. Ms. Vox talked continuously writing information for the assignment on the board. I turned to see who had snapped me out of my miserable reverie. Lily was leaning over her desk giving me an expectant pouty look.

“What?” I whispered.

“What is wrong with you? You’ve been brooding all day,” she whispered back. I turned around. I didn’t want her to see the scowl I made. I didn’t want her to think that I was mad at her or have to tell her yet the news that has made my day awful.

“Nothing just having a bad day,” I mumbled back to her. She smirked.

“P M S?” Lily teased more than asked.

“No,” I hissed annoyingly. She frowned at my rudeness all I could do was sigh. I tried to pay attention the rest of my morning to my classes. I just couldn’t get out of the mood I was in. I knew Lily wasn’t going to let this go. So I figured I would have to tell her and Debra at lunch.

I moved sluggishly through the halls as other students bustled about on my way to the cafeteria. Soon my whole school life and world would change and I didn’t think it would be for the better. I grabbed a slice of pizza from the food line and sat down at our table. Debra and Lily were already there.

“So what’s the deal with your mood today?” Debra asked sounded bored as usual. I sighed and took a bite of my pizza.

“You both know my dad is a counselor.” They just nodded, nibbling on their lunches.

“Well he joined this new program for youth in need of a separation from their own families until they turn eighteen…” I stopped as light bulbs flicked on in Lily’s head. I could see it as her eyes widened. Debra turned her head towards Lily seeing that I was watching her and had stopped talking.

“No way,” Lily said a bit too loud.

“Shhh,” I hissed again at her. “It’s bad enough the whole school will know next week when he returns.” Debra whirled back around to me her mouth open and eyes wide.

“No,” she said drawing it out in disbelief. I nodded in defeat that the answer was indeed yes. Debra smirked and returned to her lunch.

“So your dad is taking Nathan into your home. So strange you’d think he would be more cautious since he has a daughter bringing a young troubled boy into the mix,” Lily blurted out.

“Thanks, I am sure he means for me to have lots of sex,” I replied sarcastically giving her a disdainful look.

“I’m sorry,” Lily settled down from the excitement about it.

“No he just knows I am not irresponsible. I put up a fight about the whole situation last night so I doubt he would even think I would do that or be interested. He made me put the room together last night with the basics since I threw a big tantrum. We meet him tonight for dinner,” I explained to the both of them.

Debra seemed deep in thought and Lily was just absorbing it all in as she loves dramatic gossip and goings on. I had also told Lily about having to have dinner already.

“Tell us how it goes.” Debra said smiling. She had some wheels turning in her head.

“I will, I just wish my dad would have talked to me first.” I said finishing my pizza.

“Who knows maybe it won’t be so bad.” Lily tried to sound positive and reassuring, I just shrugged.

I was silent the rest of lunch while Lily and Debra discussed random things going on in school, boys, cheerleaders. I couldn’t pay attention. I was too worried and dreading having to deal with tonight.
