Saturday morning the sun was streaming in my window brightly, making my eyes squint.
Why did I feel so icky this morning? Oh right, I had an intruder living in my house now. Last night’s events tumbled into my awareness and I grunted sitting up in my bed.
Already getting angry, I put my robe on over my pajamas and went downstairs to breakfast. My dad and Nathan were already at the table eating breakfast, which consisted of sausage, eggs and hash browns. My dad reading the newspaper and Nathan’s head bent down over his food.
“Morning Dawn,” my father called over his mug of coffee as he heard me shuffling into the kitchen. Nathan just looked me up and down and went back to eating. I rolled my eyes and fixed myself a plate. I picked at it quietly slumping in my chair.
“Did you make a list Nathan?” My dad asked once he finished with the newspaper. Nathan just nodded and kept eating. The boy was so rude. I noticed he only had pajama pants on and a white tank tee, the type called a ‘wife beater’.
His muscles would flex in his arms as he ate and I watched his toned chest go up and down with his breathing and up close his skin looked like he had a small tan. Snap out of it Dawn, I ordered silently, annoyed that I caught myself ogling him.
“Okay then you both should get ready and we will head out.” My dad got up from the table. I looked at my father with bewilderment.
“Why do I have to go?” I asked annoyingly. My father gave me a stern look.
“Because I said so,” Gruff as always he put his dishes in the sink. Nathan chuckled mockingly. I glared at him.
“You shut up and I get the shower first.” I snapped at him since we had to share a bathroom.
“Don’t use all the hot water darling,” his tone mocked me. I stood up, my chair screeching against the tile floor and got right in his face.
“Don’t call me darling. I am not your darling,” I growled at him staring into those soft blue eyes of his up close. He glared back, looking me up and down taking a deep breath.
“Get out of my face little girl,” there was a hint of threat in his voice.
“Okay Jesus give it a rest.” My dad pulled me back by the scruff of my robe at the back of my neck gently.
“It’s your fault dad.” I snapped yanking myself free from his grasp and went stomping up the stairs. Jeez, I never act like this. What is it about that boy that has gotten me all wired up and feisty? It hasn’t even been a day yet.
I rushed to get into the shower first, determined to use all the hot water. I took my time with shampoo and conditioner and shaving my legs. Of course, I couldn’t take that long of a shower if I tried. He would get suspicious and there just wasn’t a lot to do once I had scrubbed clean. Scowling to myself I got out; there was still hot water left.
I ran across the hall to my room, in my robe, dripping water. I didn't want to run into him. I began to dry myself off and look for something to wear. I heard the water start to run again in my bathroom.
A mischievous smile spread across my lips, if I couldn’t use up all the hot water I could at least make it overly hot. Pulling my robe back on so no one would see me in my underwear and bra, I went out into the hallway and to the bathroom door. I tested the doorknob quietly to see if it was locked and it wasn’t. My smile widened and I opened it as silently and slowly as I could. He wanted hot water well then he would get it.
I tiptoed into the bathroom quietly. Luckily, the shower stall had a glass door that was tinted and a shower curtain so I couldn’t see any of him. I reached over with my hand, only taking as few steps as possible into the bathroom to push the toilet handle down flushing the toilet. I snuck out as fast as I could and through the door to listen and wait.
