Her

I waited outside the hotel; sand in my hair, sun burning my skin. His kisses stained my skin, tracing the curves of my cheeks in tantalizing patterns. I smiled to myself and ran a hand through my sandy hair. Hoseok. Never in my wildest dreams had I thought I would fall in love again- let alone for a someone as simply amazing as him. His faith in Fate and his trust that it would get better had won me over. It was terrifying knowing that someday I'd have a chance to explain my past, but we trusted each other. That day would come, but not today.

I checked my phone. Ten minutes had passed. I picked up my backpack and walked inside. We had agreed to wait a few minutes between each of us going back to our rooms just in case someone noticed us returning.

The afternoon had felt like a dream come true. A day in on far away island alone with a handsome man on a foreign beach. I felt my face grow hot. Maybe I should rethink the events later.

"Oh, Hoseok." I muttered under my breath. I reached to open my door. "Why am I falling for you?"

Ara's head whipped around the corner. I slipped off my shoes by the door. I refused to look at her smiling face.

"Someone had fun today." She said with a wink. I rolled my eyes and entered the main room. Today had been a rollercoaster of emotions. She trailed behind me with an excited squeal.

I sat down on the floor by Yun Duo's chair she had claimed. Her computer and work binders were splayed out over the coffee table. Ara perched on the other chair across from her. I rested my head against Yun Duo's knee.

"Ane," I moaned. The exhaustion I had been fighting off all day came crashing down on my shoulders. I closed my eyes. Now, if I could just lay my head down on the floor...

She stroke my sandy, wet head lovingly. "What happen, Hiroko?"

I sighed, already halfway to sleep. "He was wonderful."

Ara shrieked and shook Yun Duo's arm. Yun Duo gave me a shocked look. My face felt hot again. I needed to stop doing that.

"It. It was wonderful." I stammered out. No hope of going back to sleep now.

"Hiro-ah, tell us!" Ara begged. She sunk to her knees beside me and clung to my arm dramatically. "What happened? Did you two romantically walk down to the beach together? Or was it that you two went shopping for swimsuits before going swimming?" She gave me a wicked look. "Or did you to do something else?"

I shook my head, confused. "Le*! Why would you suggest such a thing, Ara?" I smacked her on the arm.

Ara frowned, rubbing the arm I hit with her hand. "Well, you must've at least gone to the beach or else you wouldn't be so wet and get sand all over unni and I."

"Oh! Gomen'nasia*, ane!" I moved to brush off the sand from her lap. She pushed my hands away.

"I don't care about the sand, Hiro. It brushes off just fine. Get back to telling me about your date. Maybe Ara will stop pestering us if you do." She winked.

I covered my face with my hands in defeat. Triumphantly, the two began to prod me with question after question.

"What did he say?"

"What did he wear?"

"Where did you go?"

"Was he really waiting for you?"

"What was his reaction to your outfit?"

"Did he do anything romantic?"

"Did you eat anything yet?" My stomach grumbled loudly at that last one. Come to think of it, I hadn't eaten since Chai and I stopped off at that cheap coffee shop at the airport. It was nearly mid-afternoon by now.

Ara gasped, clutching Yun Duo's arm. "Unni, do you think- no, he couldn't have. He couldn't have... Kissed her, right?" She spoke as if kissing was the equivalent to murdering someone. The two glanced down at my increasingly reddening face. The room exploded with noise.

"He kissed you?" Yun Duo asked. She was practically yelling in my ear.

Where, how, and what did you do? Details, Hiro. Details!" Ara demanded.

I hid my face again. Honestly, they were so embarrassing. Couldn't a girl be left alone with her smile for even a moment? They continued their pestering.

"Oh alright." I slumped back in defeat. Their smiles couldn't help but make me grin right back. "But you have to be quiet. The whole hotel can hear you, you know." They made shushing motions with their hands and nodded.

I couldn't look at them as I spoke, "Alright, yes, we did go to the beach." They held their breath, waiting to hear more. Ara made a few hurry-up gestures at me to continue talking. I sighed, more to myself than at them. Saying this out loud only made it more real.

"He's a really good kisser."

Yun Duo gaped wordlessly at me.

"I knew it! I just knew it!" Ara beamed. She leaned forward eagerly. "How did you two end up, you know...?" I bit my lip, glancing away to the side. I wasn't used to sharing every little detail.

She gasped. "You didn't. Did you?"

"Yah!" I threw the nearest object, a hotel slipper, at her head. "I already told you we didn't do anything like that! I'm not the kind of person who does that, Ara!" She dodged it and giggled mischievously.

"If you are so curious to find out, we were at the beach when it happened. Swimming," I shot her a look to keep quiet this time. "He had thrown me into the water and I was trying to get him back for it."

Ara had both hands clamped around her mouth. She nodded furiously for me to continue. Yun Duo chuckled and motioned for me to go on.

"You've heard his laugh around the sets, haven't you? Ah, it sounds like heaven is singing when he laughs." The thought of it made me melt into a puddle. His joy was infectious, even in memory. "I'd tripped on something so he'd given me his hand for balance. We didn't end up letting go." I laughed lightly. It was so embarrassing to have been seen like that when it had happened. But now it seemed only foolish to fear what people thought.

"He pushed me into the sea when we reached the shore. I was so mad at him for it. My jeans were ruined. And then," I sighed, almost forgetting that they were there listening. "something wonderful happened. I pushed him in to get back at him. He grabbed my arms as he fell and I went under with him. And when I opened my eyes, there he was."

An image of him rippled in my mind. The refracted sunlight dancing in his dark eyes. The color of his pink lips tainted with the blue of the ocean. The golden sand spreading out beneath him as he hit the sea floor. Those eyes. So kind and full of light and confidence. They were so intense. He knew what he wanted and nothing was going to get in his way of getting it.

"He kissed me, then." I murmured, almost to myself. "Under the pull of the tides where time stood still."

I opened my eyes. As the dull colors of the hotel room came into focus, a piece of my heart dropped. The memories had felt so real. As if Hoseok had been right in front of me, holding me in his arms.

I glanced around. Ara was looking off dreamily. She was most likely thinking of her own sweetheart back in Korea.

"Hiro," Yun Duo met my eyes. "Don't you dare let go of him. I'll kill you myself if he slips through your fingers."

I wouldn't dream of letting him leave my life. Not now. Not ever.
