30--
P.O.V. of Kyle
“Got everything?” I ask as I put our bags in the back of the car.
“I think so…” She tapped her chin, looking at our apartment as we’re in the parking lot. “Yeah.” She pulled me in for a hug and wrapped her arms around my waist as I rest my arms on her shoulder. “I love you.” She whispered.
“I know.” I say and kiss her head. “Diddo.” She laughs and lets me go. We get into the car and I start it up.
-=-=-=-=-
We arrive just 10 minutes early. I sit in the car. “She won’t like me.” I say as I look over to her.
“Oh you’re just being hard on yourself.” She caressed my arm.
“Please, she married a band member, and now she can’t stand him. She’ll think I’m no good for you.” I sigh and run my fingers through my hair.
She frowned and looked at me. “Give me your arms.”
“Why?” I slowly give my arms to her.
She grinned at me and rolled up the sweater’s sleeve, revealing my tattoos. I usually wear sweaters or long sleeves to hide my marks. She kissed the ink on my arms. “I don’t care right now. You’re better than good for me. You’re perfect.” I start to grin. “Aw, you’re blushing!” She pokes my hot cheeks.
“You’re too good for me. You know that?” I say as I gently grab her head and kiss it. “Let’s go get her to love me.” I say, she laughs. I take off my sweater, showing my Pink Floyd shirt. I toss the sweater in the back and take Clemine’s hand and guide her to the front door. I take a deep breath and look at her. I smile and kiss her hand. I turn to the door and knock 3 times. We wait for a second until the door swings open.
“Clementine and Kyle-” She looks me up and down. She looks again and frowns. “Tattoos? I thought doctors didn’t have any?”
“Can we please talk about this inside?” Clemine asks.
She looks at Clemine then me then back to Clemine. “Sure.” She says, opening the door for us to come inside. I let Clemine in first and walk in behind her, feeling her mother’s eyes on me. We sit in the living room awkwardly. I look at Clemine as she drinks lemonade nervously. She gives me the ’say something’ eyes. I turn towards her mom.
“I’m in love with your daughter. Nothing you say or do will change that.” I blurt.
She stares at me. “I know.”
“I’m in a band.” I say, nervously picking at my fingers.
“I knew something like this would come.” She sighed. “I don’t approve.”
“Mom!” Clemine yelled. “You like him! He just looks different. That’s it! He’s still Kyle!”
“Clementine, don’t yell at me!” She barked. “I am your mother and I know what’s best for you, he’s no good for you.” I sighed.
“I understand.” I ruffle my hair.
“We’re engaged.” She blurts.
Her mother gives a deadpanned look then turns to me. “Is this true?”
I gulp and widened my eyes. I’m going to die. “Yes…” I squeak.
“When did you purpose?!” She gripped the chair.
“Couple months ago.” Clemine says smoothly and grabs my hand. I’m still frozen.
“Why didn’t you tell me?!” She roared.
“Because you wouldn’t approve.” She says, rubbing my arm, trying to calm me down.
“I WON’T AND NEVER WILL!” She says. She gets up and walks closer to us. “Get out of my house.” She says through her teeth, pointing towards the door.
“I didn’t want to stay anyways.” Clemine growled. I get up quickly and pull Clemine after me. I walk out to the car and we get in. I drive to the nearest field, thank God her mother lived in an open area. I sigh and take off my seat belt. “I’m sorry. I really thought it would go better.” She whispered, as we both stared out the front window.
“It’s fine… I knew it was going to happen. We should have just sticked with the doctor version.” I rest my head against the seat and close my eyes.
“She needed to know, Kyle.” She says. She starts to whimper. I look at her and her face is in her hands. I pull her in for a hug over the glove box. “She hates me.”
“She doesn’t.” I reassure her, rubbing her shoulders. “She just needs time to let this sink in.”
“No, once she makes her decision, it’s final.” She says, through her palms. “I just lost my best friend.” She cries.
“No you didn’t. Shh. It’s going to be okay.” I whisper to her.
“I need air.” She pushes me off and gets out, sitting on the car. I get out, take the sweater, and sit next to her. “Kyle I love you.”
“I love you.” I say, holding her waist. She leans her head on me and I hand her the sweater.
“Thanks.” She bats her eyes with it. “I think I need to tell you something…” She says.
“Anything.” I look at her as she looks at her hands.
“I - I - had a miscarriage.” She says lowly. “It happened a couple weeks ago. It was when I was really mad at you for cheating on me. There was blood… Everywhere. I didn’t tell you because I didn’t want to tell you because I just couldn’t… I went to the doctors and it turns out… We -“ She starts to cry. “We can’t have kids…” She breaks. My throat clogs. I can’t move, I sit, staring at her, weeping. I take in small breaths, trying to not lose it. I needed to be strong for her. “I’m so sorry.” She weeped. “I didn’t know.”
“It’s not your fault.” I manage to say, but quietly. “You didn’t know. It’s fine. Clemine.”
“But you want kids.” She dried her eyes. “And I’m no good.”
I lift her chin to my face and entwine our fingers. “Baby, I only want you.” I lean in and take her breath away. I pull back and look in her eyes. I don’t know if that was the right thing to do at the moment. She smiles and I wipe away a tear. “If you can’t have kids, we can adopt. If you can’t cook, I’ll watch the food network. If you can’t walk, I’ll push you around. I only want to be with you.” I hold her cheeks in my hands. She grins and pulls me into her. She grabs me and I hold her waist. She pins me to the hood and hops on top of me. “Wait.” I push her back.
“What?” She breaths.
“There’s a hotel around here somewhere, I saw it while we were driving.” I say. She gets off and pulls me into the backseat.
“Does it matter where?” She grins.
