Experiment gone Wrong

"Will all senior science officers please report to cargo bay 3 please. We are receiving a transmission from the USS Archer about a certain material that is extremely sensitive." T'Pran's voice ran through all speakers on Deep Space K7.

Hvaid had been composing a letter to his father, writing the final line when the call was made. He had to finish the line quickly before sending it and running to the cargo bay.

"Jesus, Hvaid! Why in such a hurry?" Katallanna, a female Andorian whom he'd known since childhood, asked as the man came running towards the door. "No one else is here yet, I'm only here because I was in the neighborhood."

"The material is sensitive, I do wish to know what exactly I am working with." the half-Romulan replied.

Lanna looked on her PADD, raising an eyebrow. "Apparently, you're going to work Vidiian crystals from the Beta Quadrant. The Vidiians claim that time-travel is possible."

"Very well. Make sure the material is safely transferred to Xeno-Chemical Lab 5."

"Of course, Commander." the Andorian nodded.

And Hvaid left again, departing to the Xeno-Chemical labs.

He was curious about the new material, like he always was. After all, he was primarily Vulcanoid and Vulcanoids were naturally curious.

A few junior science officers were busy with alien chemicals. Everything looked like it was going just right from what he could observe.

The quarter-Magiran returned to his quarters for the time being, waiting until he could do his first experiments with the Vidiian crystals.

At 1800 hours, after dinner and receiving Lieutenant Katallanna's report on installing protective cases around the crystals. She and T'Rah had installed the cases together, which meant that nothing inside the cases could go wrong during an experiment.

The half-Romulan officer left behind the nearly-empty bowl of his Caesar salad with old goat cheese to go to the labs. He still had the wish to inspect the cases.

As he'd ordered, the casings were installed in Xeno-Chemical lab 5.

The casings were made of electromagnetic copper and iron components to keep the crystals' energy inside, but anyone with good ears could hear the energy bouncing inside the casing.

Hvaid picked up one of the cases and placed it in a round cave-like structure made of the same electromagnetic material as the casings were. "Let's get on with an experiment."

The Vulcanoid hybrid grabbed his sterile lab-coat and a pair of plastic glasses to protect is over-sensitive eyes. He covered his hands with latex and opened the casing.

There were 4 crystals inside the casing, serial number FJ5337PI999. All of them had a brilliant white colour, the energy from within the crystal absorbed by the casing's wall.

The science officer picked up a scanner in his right hand, writing down the readings with his left as well as his observations.

"Energy reaching maximum of 145 Volt when exposed to a sterile environment. When completely in casing, the maximum is merely a 110 Volt. The raise is a percentage of 31,818 percent. This could mean that when the crystals are exposed to a non-sterile environment, that the amount of Volt could raise to a lethal dose. My findings would discourage the use of the crystals by anyone who has non-scientific intentions."

Hvaid took one of the crystals in his right hand, studying its structure and formation. He laid it down for a moment, also taking off his glasses as he walked to the other side of the room to enter his findings in the space station's database.
