Luke and I migrated from the floor to his bed, we sat parallel from each other sitting indian style. He ran his fingers through his hair anxiously as he prepared to speak. He took a deep breath and began, "Okay so when I went to Katport last year, I was seventeen. It was my first year too. My mum had gotten a new job so we moved away from our old place to here. After my seventeenth birthday though, I started seeing things. Whenever I got mad, I would picture killing someone and torturing them before they got what they deserved. My eyes would turn blood red and I couldn't control my own actions. I started to do weird things like, I could move an object by just thinking about what I wanted it to do, but what scared me the most is I had the power to control people. I could make them do whatever I wanted whether it was to someone else or themselves, " He said. "On my first day, I met this guy Ashton. We became best friends and we did everything together. We were polar opposites though, he was the bad boy while, believe it or not, I was the dorky kid that everyone made fun of. It all changed though once I started learning how to properly use my...powers I guess I can call them. My whole image changed once I beat up the captain of the basketball team, Blake Evans." That name rung a bell in my head but I pushed it aside and gave Luke my full attention. "I changed everything about me after that. I started wearing a lot black and I didn't take shit from anyone. I slacked off on my schoolwork and my mom got pissed. She kept telling me to change back to the old me, but I didn't want to be the dork that everyone stomped all over, I wanted to be the kid that everyone wanted to be, the guy that could get any girl he wanted and just be able to walk through life with ease, but nothing in life is really all that simple. I guess Ashton realized something about me was off because he started pestering me about it. I didn't tell him everything though, I just told him it was time for a change."
"Wait," I interrupted. "What does this have to do with me, or Garrett and Nathan?"
"I'm getting to that, just listen." He sighed. "So a few weeks after I changed, I met this girl. Her name was Jordan, she had blonde hair and chocolate brown eyes. We met at the library thats just a few blocks down from the school. I swear she was so funny I would laugh until I cried whenever I was around her, she had the most amazing laugh. Just seeing her smile was enough to brighten my day. We met up at the library everyday and we would just talk for hours. It was about three weeks after we met when I asked her to be my girlfriend. I ended up telling her everything about me. My visions became a lot less frequent after I met her, she always found a way to calm me down. I fell in love with her." Luke paused and rubbed his hands over his face. "But about four months after we became official, she showed up at my house at four in the morning. She was sobbing and she told me that she made a mistake. She told me how she had went to a party that night after she stood me up on our date. She said she got completely intoxicated and ended hooking up with some random guy. Turns out, that random guy was Nathan. She said Nathan wanted her to break up with me and stay with him but she told me she felt so guilty but I didn't listen to her. I was so angry that she ditched me for a party and then hooked up with another guy while here I was, hopelessly in love with her. I was crushed, and I lost control. All I remember was screaming at her, telling her to go kill herself and how she was so selfish," Luke was full on bawling at this point. Tears flowed freely down his cheeks, but he let them fall. I reached for his hand and took it in mine, giving it a small squeeze, encouraging him to continue. "I remember slamming the door in her face and running to my room and I spent the whole night screaming and destroying everything I had that reminded me of her. Pictures, shirts she used to borrow, love notes..... everything. I was on a rampage until I picked up three pictures we took on her birthday when I took her on a day trip to the beach."
*flashback*
"Luke! Come take a picture with me!" Jordan called as she stood with her back facing the ocean. The wind made her hair blowing in all directions. "Do I have to?" Luke whined. "Please?" Jordan pleaded. Luke smiled, "Only because its your birthday." Jordan did a fist pump in the air making Luke chuckle.
She held her phone up and Luke wrapped his arms around her waist from behind. He rested his chin on her shoulder and smiled. Jordan snapped the picture just as the sunset, setting fire to the horizon. "Its perfect." Jordan sighed. Luke turned her so their faces were only centimeters apart. "You're perfect." Luke said while tucking a peice of stray hair from her face behind her ear. She blushed, "You're so cheesy." Luke took the phone from Jordan's hand. His face leaned closer to hers until their foreheads were touching. *Click* Jordan opened her mouth to scold him but was stopped when their lips connected. *Click* Jordan pulled back, "Did you just-?" she said motioning towards the phone where Luke had snapped a picture while they kissed. "Yep." He said smuggly. "You're such a dork," She laughed.
"I sat on my bed for half an hour staring at the pictures until I decided to go find her and apologize. I got into my car that night and started to drive to her house when I saw police cars, ambulances, and half the town in their pajamas by the entrance of the dock that was by the lake that was not far from her house. Being the curious person I am, I stopped and got out of my car to see what all the commotion was about. It took me a while to get to the front of the massive crowd but I managed to push my way through. When I got to the front, I saw a tow-truck pulling something out of the water." Luke's hands were shaking as he spoke. I rubbed small circles on his hand with my thumb to help him calm down, it seemed to work because he soon calmed down, but his tears never stopped. "It was her car, Jordan's. I would recognize the silver camry anywhere. I watched as they pulled it out of the lake covered in mud and plants. They opened the door and revealed Jordan's lifeless body. She was soaked, covered in blood from head to toe, you would think that the water would have washed the blood off but no, it was like, like it was a permanent tattoo on her body. I screamed and tried to run towards her but they held me back. I remember never crying so hard in my life. I sat their sobbing as I watched them take the only girl I ever loved out of her wrecked car and laid her on the ground. I yelled at them to let me through, but they didn't listen. The medic tried everything, CPR, mouth to mouth, but they couldn't get her back. They finally let me through and I immediatley held her in my arms. I cried in front of everyone holding her and screaming for her to wake up, but she never did." Luke sobbed. "Riley, It was my fault she died."
"Luke, you can't blame yourself for her getting into an acciden-"
"It wasn't an accident RIley!" He yelled. "I told her to kill herself, and she did." He buried his head in his hands. "I didn't mean to, I swear. I didn't mean to use my powers on her."
I scooted closer to Luke and cupped his face with my hands. I wiped the tears off his ice cold face and stared into his teary eyes. "Luke, you didn't mean to. You did it out of anger, You werent yourself."
Luke's eyes were filled with sorrow and guilt, his voice was barely above a whisper when he said,"But Riley, That's not even half of the story."
