"Nathan found out about me and my powers before I even met Jordan. He was a junior then and he told me that he could show me how to use them properly. I thought he would teach me how to control my powers, but he did just the opposite. All he taught me how to do was hurt people, control them, and I didn't want to be a monster like he is." Luke explained. "After I told him that I didn't want to be his sidekick anymore, he was furious. He told me I would only end up hurting people more if I didn't learn how to control them."

"What did you say back?" I asked.

"I told him to go to Hell, but he replied, 'See you there, Hemmings.'" My mouth formed an 'o' shape as Luke continued.

"Well, when Nathan heard about what happened to Jordan, he never let me forget about it. He came up to me everyday at school saying how it was my fault she was dead. I knew that already, but hearing her name again just brought back so many memories." Luke said while hiding his head behind his hands.

"Is that why you..." I started to ask if that's why he killed himself but I stopped myself when Luke shook his head.

"That's just what they want the public to think. They want to think that I was just some kid who got stressed and ended it all, but its a lie."

"So what really happened?" I asked while adjusting my posture.

"It was one month after Jordan's funeral, and my mate, Ashton, was really worried about me. I barely talked to him anymore and I was always zoned out."

*flashback*

"Luke, talk to me mate." Ashton pleaded as they walked down the hall to their biology classroom. Luke just stayed silent. "I get you're upset, but you can't just shut everybody out!" He yelled as the hallway cleared leaving it empty except for the two boys. "I just can't," Luke mumbled. "Can't what? Talk to your best friend? Luke you need to let it go, there's nothing you can do to get her back, she's gone. You need to keep moving forward, stop living in the past!" Ashton exclaimed. "You weren't in love with her! You didn't know her like I did! She knew things about me that nobody has ever cared about knowing! Stop telling me to move on when I'm not ready! How about you get your own life and stop telling me how to live mine!" Luke yelled back angrily before storming into the classroom. Ashton followed shortly after, it didn't help that they were lab partners so the whole class they did their work in silence. Luke could feel Nathan's glare from behind him the whole period, even though he was a complete ass, Nathan was exceptionally smart for a junior so he took AP Biology which unfortunately was the same one Luke was placed in. He felt a wave of relief wash over him as the bell rang for lunch. He rummaged through his backpack to find his lunch money while his classmates filed out of the room. As he stood up, his gaze fell upon a familiar brown haired blue-eyed boy.

"I'm not in the mood for your rude ass remarks today, Nathan," Luke growled. Nathan laughed, "I'm not here to talk."

"Then what do you want," Luke snapped. He instantly regretted it as he watched Nathan's blue eyes suddenly turn blood red.

"You killed her, you ditched me, we could have been a great team," Nathan grumbled.

"I'm not playing your game, Nathan. I don't do teams." Luke said just as Ashton walked back into the classroom.

"Luke, mate I'm really sorry for trying- Nathan?" Ashton said.

"Ash, get out of here," Luke ordered, his eyes never leaving Nathan's.

"Oh no, this will make this even more fun." Nathan smirked. He turned toward a confused Ashton and laughed. "Poor Ashton, I bet he doesn't know a thing, does he?" He asked Luke.

"What is he talking about?" Ashton asked.

"Well, your supposedly 'best friend' here, hasn't told you why he's acting so weird all of a sudden?"

Ashton shrugged, "He's still hung up about Jordan." Luke flinched at the mention of her name.

"Now did he tell you how she died?"

"Shut up Nathan," Luke demanded.

"He didn't tell you how it was his fault?"

"Shut the fuck up!" Luke yelled. His breathing was becoming unsteady. All he could see was red- glimpses of Jordan's mangled body reappeared in his mind. Then glimpses of her with Nathan, him holding her in his arms.

"Luke what's going on with you? Your eyes-" Ashton gasped. Luke ignored him and lunged straight for Nathan but he quickly sidestepped, dodging Luke's tackle.

"Now, you would think a seeker like you would actually know how to properly use his powers." Nathan said. He outstretched his arm so his palm faced Luke. Luke watched as a red light appeared from the center of Nathan's hand. It suddenly shot out and hit Luke straight in the heart. He groaned in pain, a burning sensation spread throughout his torso then moved through his whole body.

"What the Hell?" Ashton screamed while running over to his best friends side. Nathan smiled, proud of his damage he had caused. Nathan walked out of the classroom, leaving Ashton crying with Luke in his arms.

"Luke, what is going on?" Ashton asked, tears streaming down his face.

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you." Luke mumbled. He knew he only had no more than two minutes before would slip away. The only way you could kill a seeker was with fire. You had to burn their heart to rid them forever. He remembered one thing he learned about his powers, "Ash, I need you to do me a favor."

"Anything," Ashton replied. Luke grabbed his hand and grasped it with his own. He closed his eyes and used everything in his strength to transfer some of his gifts to the center of Ashton's palm.

"You'll have limited powers from now on Ash, that includes a protection effect. Seekers can't touch you, and doing this also immortalizes me, so I'll always be around, but you won't see me." Luke explained. Ashton nodded, "Any last advice?"

"Stay alive." Luke laughed before his eyes grew heavy and he slipped into a comfortable state of darkness.

"So let me get this straight, You are what Nathan is?" I asked nervously. Luke nodded, "But I don't use my powers like he does. He uses it for selfish reasons, not for the better good."

"Do your powers still work?" I asked.

"Yeah."

"What's Ashton up to now?" I asked yet another question.

"He dropped out of school. His mom homeschools him, he spends all of his free time at the library trying to figure out more about seekers." Luke explained. "He has this mark on the center of his hand where I transferred the gifts, it's a circle with a diamond inside of it. It's branded on him."

"Where do I come into all of this?"

"Well, There are a certain type of 'people' who are like the opposite of seekers. They usually get their powers when their born, but the powers don't fully develop until they're seventeen. They're called zaveners."

"Do they have the same powers as seekers?" I asked.

"Basically," Luke shrugged, "But seekers are more of dark magic."

"So that makes you...?"

"I'm a seeker. I never had a choice like everyone else does. My father, he was a seeker too. He got ill when I was about six. Before he died, he basically transferred all of his powers to me." Luke said while holding his hand open, revealing a symbol in the palm of his hand, a circle with a diamond inside.

"I'm still confused about how I'm apart of this."

Luke took in a deep breath, "Riley, you're a zavener."
