*Riley's POV*
I ran into my bedroom and slammed my door shut. Why was my mother being so rude to Michael? I ran my hand through my hair in frustration while pacing around my room.
My phone buzzed in my pocket and I quickly pulled it out,
From: Michael
What was that?!
I sighed and quickly dialed his number, it rang twice before he picked up.
"What did my mom say to you?" I said.
"She said to stay away from you and I asked her why and she said something about my dad then she slammed the door in my face," he explained while there was a small noise in the background.
"Are you home yet?"
"I literally just walked in the door, I'm gonna talk to my dad and see if he knows anything about your mom. What's her first name?"
"Karen. Let me know what he says, I'll see you later Mike," I replied.
"Bye Riley."
I ended the call and threw my phone on my bed. I peeled my clothes off and slipped on some fleece pajama pants and an old black shirt that I found in a box in my moms room that she kept my dad's stuff in. You'd think after eleven years, the smell of cologne would fade, but it surprisingly didn't.
After I finished wiping off my makeup and brushing my teeth, I walked back into my room only to see a familiar figure standing in the corner of my room. He held a picture of me and my mom when I was fourteen and it was the day of my eighth grade formal. My dress was a dark green strapless dress that stopped about mid-thigh. My hair was curled but braided to the side, making it look simple, but elegant.
I cautiously made my way over to him, and stopped beside him and stayed quiet. I looked up and was shocked to see Luke crying.
"What's wrong?" I said while grasping onto his arm.
He sighed, "I'm never going to be able to have this moment with my daughter. I won't be able to walk her down the isle. Hell, I won't even be able to get married myself."
"Luke-"
"Don't tell me you're sorry. Please don't." He said while facing me. His eyes were red and puffy and tears still flowed down his face. Instead of speaking, I wrapped my arms around his torso. He hesitated before wrapping his arms around my small figure, he was still cold, but his touch sent an unfamiliar warmth throughout me.
We stood there for a moment, just holding each other. Luke had stopped crying and now the only noise in the room was the quiet sniffles he would make ever so often.
I pulled away and took a seat on my bed, sitting Indian style. I patted the spot next to me, inviting him to sit down. He gratefully took my offer and crawled onto my bed; because my bed was up against a wall, I sat so my back was leaning against it. Luke sat the same and leaned his head on my shoulder, I giggled as his hair tickled my neck.
"You left your truck here today when you transported to school, I thought you might need it to drive home or something, So I flashed it there for you," Luke mumbled.
"Thanks, I totally forgot about my truck," I smiled. My eyes started getting heavier by the minute and I could feel myself drifting off to sleep.
"You should go to bed, you have school tomorrow. Get some rest," Luke said while standing up. He helped me under my covers and pulled them back up once I was comfortable. He leaned down and left a quick kiss on my temple.
