"Why did you just get out of the school?" Calum whispered harshly.

"Why did you grab me like a fucking kidnapper?" I replied.

"I was just- wait why are your eyes white?" he said while pointing to my eyes. "Why aren't they hazel?"

I sat for a moment in confusion, I didn't know how to reply because I honestly didn't know why my eyes were white either.

"I-I'm wearing contacts," I stuttered.

"What? why?"

"Just because, now why did you need me?" I asked annoyed.

"I want to know why you've been avoiding me. I've tried to text you a bunch of times since the carnival but you haven't picked up once. And you seem a lot more jumpy than before, and Nathan literally hisses every time someone says your name."

"I got my phone taken away," I replied a little too quickly. I watched as Calum's hand reached toward my jacket pocket, "Bullshit," he said while pulling out my cell phone. I sighed in defeat and grabbed my phone back.

"Just drop it Calum, I think it's best if you stay away from me for a while." I said.

"What?" He asked, the look on his face was full of confusion and hurt.

"I'm sorry but I just can't deal with all of this stuff happening, I don't want to get you dragged into it." I said while slowly backing up.

"Wait," he said while grabbing my forearm. I winced at the contact and instantly pulled my hand back. I looked down to see a bruise forming on my arm from where Nathan yanked me to the floor.

"What the hell is that?" Calum said while carefully inspecting my arm.

"Nothing, I'm fine Calum." I replied pulling my arm away again.

"Just tell me what-"

"Riley!" I heard a girls voice call, interrupting Calum. I turned to see Haley's familiar violet hair and I let a sigh of relief.

"Mr. Weaver needs you outside of the gym. Something about sports, " she explained. I nodded and walked towards Haley, leaving Calum on the blacktop.

We successfully made it around the corner of the school when I turned to the purple haired girl, "Does Mr. Weaver really need me?"

She shook her head,"No I just saw you trying to get away from that guy again so I thought I would help."

"Well, thanks."

"They've dismissed everyone for the day so the fire department can do something about the fire damage in the senior commons, wanna go get something to eat?" she asked. I nodded my head and a smile stretched across her face, "Great! I know a little café sort of thing about a ten minute walk from here." She looked so happy that I said yes, her grey eyes were glistening from excitment. "I can drive us, my truck is parked out front," I offered. She nodded and we walked towards my truck as she asked me more about myself.

"So you're from America, right?" she asked. I nodded my head, "I was born in Ohio but then I moved to Virginia because of my moms job and now I'm here."

"Why exactly did you move here?" she asked as we climbed inside. "Family problems," I mumbled while turning on the ignition, "So where am I going?"

"Drive straight like you're going to Mason's but take a left on exit fourty-one." She said while pointing her finger in the direction I was supposed to go.
