It had been an hour. A whole hour and no word about the well being of my youngest child. I waited restlessly, subconsciously chewing my nails as I stressed over Leo.
The creak of a door drew me out of my anxious state, and as I turned around I met the warm brown eyes of a doctor. He sat at the end on my bed, clipboard clutched in a firm hand. My heart pounded as he read its content over before looking me in the eye.
"How is he." I blurted out, gripping my bed sheets.
The doctor nodded, flashing a quick smile. "There is no need to get so worked up Miss O'Neil. Baby D is going to be ok." I couldn't help the yelp of joy that escaped my mouth, but didn't care as I knew my baby was fine. "However," My eyes widened slightly as he continued. "He has had an abnormal heart rhythm for the past hour, flatlining several times. We're concerned that it may develop into something worse as he gets older."
My heart dropped, a pain clawing up the side of my stomach as I allowed this image to settle in my mind.
"For now though, your son seems stable. You are to return him here immediately if there are any signs of future problems or late development."
I nodded, barely comprehending what was going on as my head span.
"C-can I see him?" I croaked, staring up at Doctor.
"I don't see why not."
