April stared, gaping at her six month old as he giggled, taping the tray of the high chair.
"What was that Donnie?" She gasped, kneeling down infront of her son.
The baby repeated his first word several times more, confirming April's beliefs.
"Apral...Apral.." He blabbered. It wasn't perfect, but it was still something. She embraced him softly, groaning when she felt him clutch onto her hair.
Behind her, April could hear disgruntled noises of protestation emitting from Raph, who seemed to disapprove over the fact that Donnie Washington first to talk and win his mother's attention.
He turned away, sinking his newly formed front teeth into a soft toy. He then, upon deciding it was not for him, flung the toy at Leo, who cried out when it hit him square in the face. The youngest wailed incessantly, waiting for the comfort that never came. He then felt a sharp stinging on his foot, looking down only to find that Mikey had bitten it.April reluctantly tore her attention away from Donnie after multiple minutes of unwavering sobs. Leo was laying on his stomach, tears streaming from his eyes as Raph battered him with a toy.
"Leo, do you really have to make so much noise?" April sighed, lifting him from the floor. He nuzzled into her, mewing softly with wet eyes.
She then set him on the couch, handing him a bottle before returning to Donnie. Leo stared after her, a single tear slipping from his eye.
He jolted slightly at a stray thump inside him, followed by a wave of excruciating pain along his rib cage. His body jerked forward as the same thing happened again, picking up quantity. Leo felt his head spin, unable to comprehend what was going on as he fell to the floor, his irregular heartbeat was the last thing he felt as he sunk into blackness.
