You'll be alright

I waddled into the room, leaning heavily against Casey for support. There were several incubators set up next to one another, and as we neared the wall, I caught a glimpse of the four belonging to my sons.
The first three newborns were similar in size, little white woollen hats covering their heads.
The fourth incubator, however, stood out from the rest as it was connected to multiple machines and was occupied by a smaller newborn with an oxygen mask covering half of his face.
He seemed to squirm around a little, eyes sealed shut as he mewed softly.

I took a seat next to the incubator, leaning in to hold my son. My heart froze as I touched him, tears welling in my eyes.
"Hey baby boy...you gave me a real scare back there huh.." I smiled as his fingers curled around my thumb, tears openly flooding from my eyes by now.
"Wow, what's with the waterworks?" Casey remarked, pulling up a chair next to me. I shot him a playful scowl, holding Leo closer. I could just about feel his tiny, slightly irregular heartbeat. Sure, it was unsteady, but it was still there.
I lost track of time, immersing myself in my thoughts, giving an internal sigh of relief for my child's survival.
Cracking an eyelid open, I scanned the dimly lit room, catching sight of a couple nurses in the distance, but no Casey.

Staring down at the bundle in my arms, I felt my heart skip a beat at the sight of those beautiful sapphire blue eyes beaming back up at me.

"Leo.." So much hope radiated through those eyes, hope that I'd been anticipating for 9 months.

I watched as his eyes drooped, stroking his head softly. "You are my one and only.." I sang quietly, placing him back into the incubator. "And you can wrap your fingers round my thumb, and hold me tight." I gently removed my finger from his grasp, leaning in to place a gentle kiss on his head.
"And you'll be alright.."
