"Can you please let me go?" I protested.
"No." The Alpha softly growled. I didn't know what was going through his head. I was stuck in this office with him while he paced around. I could almost see the gears working but I wouldn't know what about. I grew uncomfortable but his presence kept me sane. I realized I didn't even know his name.
"What's your name then?" I ask with irritation.
"My name is Hunter." To my surprise, he answers with his eyes trained on me.
"You can't look at me unless you let me go," I pick at my nails.
"You're funny for thinking you can tell me what to do," he smirks at me.
I rolled my eyes knowing that there was no use in arguing. It's been like this for the past hour. I am easily getting irritated but I try not to show it. Hunter however is a hard person to not look at. I didn't really want a mate. He was attractive yes, but I just felt overwhelmed. So many things have happened in my life that I don't think I have the energy for this. This felt too complicated.
"I need to get home Hunter. I can't stay here and you're not my mate." I lied. I knew he was my mate. My wolf was saying it, my heart keeps beating faster every time I looked at him. It was 100% certain that he was my mate. I just didn't want to admit it.
"I too am your mate!" He roared. I saw anger flash through his eyes but they were gone in a heartbeat. I flinched a little when he screamed.
"I'm not a wolf! I'm human!" I yelled back at him. That was a major lie but it came as an outburst since he was getting onto my nerves.
"Then how do you know about mates? Do you think I'm stupid?" He asks accusingly while in disbelief that I said that dumb lie. But I was on a roll and I didn't stop.
"My friend Anna. She's a wolf. Maybe she's your mate." I said while looking over to the balcony every few seconds.
"I know my mate when I see her, and I'm looking right at her," He stares me down with those piercing eyes.
"No! I, Sara Winters, reject you as a mate." I stood up and put one hand on my heart, and the other holding it up. Why'd I put my hand on my heart? I don't know, but when you make a pledge, you put a hand over your heart. Granted, I didn't actually know how to reject my mate.
He looked flabbergasted by what I just had said. His demeanor changed and I suddenly felt a little threatened.
"Leave then," his voice was cold and sleek, like it could cut me. And it did. I wanted to keep the act going to get away but my wolf came out and she took control. I could feel her presence come to surface and my eyes glow golden.
"No! I didn't mean it!" She yelled. She left as quick as she came. Curse her. I quietly stood there, fighting an inner battle with myself. I couldn't do this right now. I felt like I was being split into two. I was glad Hunter didn't say anything.
"Please let me go." I said with pleading eyes. I changed the subject since I didn't know exactly what I wanted. I just wanted to go home.
"No," Hunter groans out. He was trying his hardest to not get aggressive either. I can feel the rumble of a growl coming up every time he says no. He takes a step towards me while holding his hand out but I take a step back.
"Let me go," I say softer but he takes another step forward. I didn't want to touch him. It felt like I was a marshmallow on fire. He intimidated me.
"No," He growls out angrily. Clearly angry with the question about me leaving. He stalks forward to me but I stepped back until my back hit the wall. Soon enough, he trapped me. Ugh, what a stupid move. I tried finding a way out but he put his hands around my waist and pulled me closer to him.
