Shortly after Hunter agrees to confessing, he leads me inside to change into a fresh pair of clothes. He patiently waits for me in the bedroom while I change in the bathroom. I walk out hastily and plant myself on the bed next to Hunter. I was eager to know what everyone else knew that I didn't.
"Do you remember your old pack?" Hunter asks me.
I take a second to think it over before shaking my head. "Frankly, I can't remember anything before the crash happened..." I admit to him.
He nods his head in understanding and places a hand on my thigh. I ignore the reactions my body makes when he physically touches me and focus on the matter at hand. "Trey is a questionable leader for as long as I could remember. It wasn't until word got around that there was a lineage of wolves that had these healing abilities," Hunter tells the story in such anger that I almost flinch at his tone.
"Your mother was one of them," Hunter peaks a glance at me as my breath catches in my throat. I barely knew my parents and here I was getting information I've only wished about receiving.
"Trey was their alpha but things got ugly when Trey found out. He wanted to keep you and your mother at his pack but your father didn't approve. Hence why you guys left, and became rogues. By the time it got back to us, you guys had already fled before we could do anything to help," Hunter has this guilt that he's been holding onto but I put my hand on his shoulder to let him know there wasn't anything his parents or his pack could've done.
"I was on a perimeter run with my father when I caught your scent. I couldn't control myself and followed it despise my father's warnings," Hunter chuckles to himself as if reliving the memory. "I hadn't noticed that Trey had been keeping an on your family for a while. We thought he left it alone," Hunter's hands clench into a fist.
My heart beats faster as I realize where this was going. The memory replays in my head like a track record. I put my hands on Hunter's fists, looking for any type of comfortability. I hate thinking about that day.
"They expected you guys to be on that road and already had everything in place," Hunter shakes his head in disappointment. Worry bubbles in me and I can't help but piece everything together.
"My father couldn't risk going to war right then and there. It was only him and I against Trey's pack. You guys were also rogues, there was nothing we could've done," Hunter looks at me with pure guilt and my heart wrenches at the sight. I look away unable to handle the look he gives me.
"It's not your fault," I mange to say, slowly getting angry as well. All of this for what? What was the reason? We didn't do anything. People are just plain cruel. Why did I have to be born this way?
"Don't ever say that shit again. You are perfect the way you are," Hunter spits out. I almost jump in fright from his sudden tone but I relax when I look at his eyes. Although his tone was angry, his eyes told me differently. This man was in love with me.. I take a deep breath at the sudden thought and turn away so he doesn't see my blushing cheeks.
"I don't understand though, what about the meetings? Is Trey still around?" My questions start flying out, not really caring how fast I was speaking.
"We've been keeping an eye on Trey, ever since I found you. Turns out, he still wants to find you," Hunter admits finally. Realization dawns on me that I've been in danger this whole time.
Memories of feeling like I'm being watched throughout my life suddenly come into play. What if it was Trey? Is that why we always moved place to place? I can't believe it. A shiver runs down my spine out of fear. I suddenly felt unsafe. I stand up and start pacing in front of Hunter as thoughts swirl around in my brain.
