The Love Through Silence

Chapter 3

Another week had gone by and Magnus was sitting beside Alec planning a vacation to Iceland when he woke up. Magnus kept an even closer eye on Alec the entire week after the procedure the Silent Brothers did. He was so anxious yet so excited to finally get his Alexander back. "Come back to me Alexander, please come back. I love you."

ALEC'S POV

 It's been almost three months. I am dying, almost literally, to wake up. The thing that is keeping me from going insane is Magnus. Him having the hope that I'll wake up and that everything will be normal again, keeps me going. I want to come back to Magnus and tell him I love him.

That night everything changed. As Magnus was sitting there with Alec, reading him one of his favourite books of all time, the monitors started beeping like crazy and Alec stated to violently shake. Magnus jumped and called the doctors. He was having another seizure. Little did they know that this seizure would wake him up. Everyone was panicked. This was his worst one yet. Magnus held onto Clary for dear life as he watched the love of his life suffering. All of a sudden the monitor slowed down back to normal, everyone was relieved. Magnus went back to Alec and held his hand. Alec then slowly opened his eyes and started to violently cough. He had a breathing tube down his throat and was panicking. The doctors told everyone to wait outside to wait while they removed the tube. The doctors called Magnus back into the room as soon as they told everyone to leave. They told him to hold onto Alec while they took out the tube. "Alec, can you hear me?" Alec nodded quickly without moving his head too much because of the tube. "I want you to hold onto Magnus as much as you need to, this might hurt but not for long okay?" the doctor told Alec. He nodded quickly, eager to get the tube out of his throat so he could breathe properly again. While the doctors were turning off the machines, Magnus could tell how impatient Alec was getting and he saw the panic and fear in his eyes. Magnus held onto his hand and Alec started to squeeze his hand. "Don't worry Alec, they are going to help you, you are going to be okay! I love you." Alec squeezed his hand again. The doctors finally finished with the machines and came over to Alec. He squeezed onto Magnus with all the strength he had in him while the doctors started to remove the tube. Once they had removed it, Alec was breathing heavily, so the doctors gave him an oxygen tube for his nose. Alec titled his head over to Magnus, and kissed him as much as he could. They both were exhausted. When the doctors felt that it was okay for them to start examining Alec, they called everyone back in. they thought that Alec might feel better if he had people with him to encourage him. When they came in, they both had tears in their eyes. Magnus was still holding Alec's hand when everyone came back in so the doctors could test Alec.

 The doctor told him to move his body parts one by one to make sure his body was still able to function. It was also to see if he still could understand what people said. Once the doctor was satisfied with Alec's physical state, he moved onto speech. He told Alec to say his name, but all that came out was a small and quiet grunt. Alec squeezed Magnus' hand and started to panic. The doctors and Magnus calmed him down and they pulled them out into the hall. "So, Alec is going to be okay, there's only two problems. One is he is going to have to learn how to walk again, it might be like teaching a baby to walk. It could take days, months, even years. The second problem is his speech. Sometimes, people come out of comas, never being able to speak again, it's hard to tell long term at this point, but the good news is that he can still comprehend words, so he will have to find another way to communicate."

ALEC'S POV

 I did everything the doctor told me to do. But the one thing I can't do is speak! I wanted to wake up so badly so I can tell my boyfriend that I love him. He was the main reason I didn't go insane, trapped in my head for almost three months, and when I do wake up, it's not better, I am still trapped!

 Everyone came back in and gave Alec a hug and explained to him what the doctor had told them. Alec sat there beside Magnus and let out soft, quiet tears. Magnus was heartbroken. Everyone realized that they should give them some time alone and said goodbye to Alec. Alec leaned into Magnus and cried quietly. Magnus was silently crying too but tried not to let Alec see, he had to be strong for Alec. Magnus gave Alec his phone so he can text to speak. It was heartbreaking to see Alec this way, but he still loved him, probably even more. "I love you Alexander." Said Magnus. He could tell that Alec wanted to say it back. He could see the tension on Alec's face. And his lips moving, but nothing came out. Alec looked down at his phone and texted "I love you too Magnus."
