The Love Through Silence

Chapter 6

The next day, Colleen came and it was a huge milestone for Alec. It was the longest time Alec had stood up on his own. Magnus started crying tears of joy and Alec pulled him up for a huge hug. After Colleen left, they did some new signs. Magnus had stayed up trying to learn more signs to propose to Alec with later that day. After their shortened signing session, Magnus told Alec that they were going to spend the rest of the day at Central Park. Alec's face lit up with a huge smile. Magnus got himself and Alec ready to go.

As Magnus pushed Alec down the street towards Central Park, the two were so happy even though they couldn't walk hand in hand through the park or lie on the ground and spend hours talking like they used too, they were just grateful that they had each other. When they found the perfect spot, Magnus set up a picnic blanket and two small pillows on the ground under one of the biggest trees. He then swished his fingers and made the food and wine appear on the blanket. He went over to Alec after everything was set up, perfectly to Magnus' standards, and helped him onto the blanket. They sat there eating, drinking, and talking. It was absolutely perfect. When they finished eating, Magnus decided that this would be the perfect moment to ask him. Magnus slowly got up onto one knee and pulled a small velvet box out of his coat. He took Alec's hands and looked into his gorgeous blue eyes. "Alexander, you are truly the love of my life. You are my pride and joy. I can't imagine what I would do without you. You are the best thing that had ever happened to me. I love you so much. You are the love of my life. Alexander Gideon Lightwood, will you marry me?" Magnus looked at Alec's face, waiting for an answer. Alec's eyes started to tear up as he excitedly nodded to Magnus, quickly grabbing his face to kiss him. When they broke from the kiss, Magnus slid the ring onto Alec's finger, and they kissed again. Bystanders started to clap and cheer for the newly engaged couple.

The next morning Alec woke up before Magnus. He was so happy that all he could do was stare at his beautiful new fiancé. He couldn't wait to tell everyone at the Institute the news. Magnus slowly started to wake up and turned to face his fiancé. They kissed again. They decided that later that day, they would tell the news to the Institute.

When they got to the Institute (by portal), Magnus whistled to get everyone's attention as he adjusted Alec's chair into the centre of the room. They were holding hands as everyone was gathering around them. Alec didn't like the attention, but he knew that Magnus loved it and that he was just excited for them to share the news. All of a sudden, Magnus turned to Alec and signed to him without speaking. "Do you want to stand up to tell everyone the news? Alec replied "Yes" and Magnus grabbed his arms, slowly raising him. Alec held onto Magnus tightly. Everyone in the room gasped and cheered for Alec. Magnus then began to say, "We have very important news to share. Not only is Alexander improving profoundly, but we are also now engaged!" Everyone cheered, especially Isabelle and Clary who were jumping up and down like overly excited five year olds. Magnus could feel Alec starting to shake and quickly helped him sit back down.

Izzy, Clary, Simon, and Jace, came over to the couple to congratulate them. They were all so happy they made arrangements to go to their apartment the next day to celebrate. Isabelle went up to Magnus after and said "Since when did you and Alec sign?" "Well, I thought that if he couldn't talk, then we would both find a way to communicate that we both could use instead of me talking and him typing." Magnus explained. Izzy squealed and said "You don't know how happy you make me to know how much you actually care for my brother, you are going to be an amazing husband." They hugged, then went back to the others.

Alec and Magnus went back to the apartment and began to cuddle on the couch and watched a movie. Halfway through the movie, Alec caught Magnus' attention and started to sign, "Magnus, I want to try to take a step. Can you help me?" Magnus then replied "Of course I will dear. Are you sure you're ready?" "Yes." Magnus stood up and started to make space in the living room. He reached for Alec's hands and slowly raised him off the couch. Alec took a deep breath and slowly attempted to move his right foot forward. He tried to put his weight onto his foot. It didn't go as well as he planned, as his leg couldn't support his weight. Magnus caught Alec and sat him on the couch. Alec had a look of disappointment on his face. Magnus kneeled down and cupped Alec's face. "Hey, that was amazing. You have to remember, its only been two weeks since you woke up, give your body time. You almost took your first step. In two weeks, I'd say that is a huge improvement after being comatose for three months." Alec's face lost the disappointed look that was replaced with realization of what Magnus had just said. He then signed "I love you." Magnus did the same.

 A week later, Izzy came barging through the door during one of Alec's therapy sessions. She went over to watch Alec try to stand up on his own. She looked so proud of her brother, once his session was finished, she called them over to the couch with a huge binder. Alec looked confused so Izzy started to explain "Now that you are engaged, you have to start to plan the wedding!" Magnus looked excited. She started to spew out ideas. Magnus would occasionally chime in saying "What about the glitter?" and both Alec and Izzy laughed. Isabelle decided that she would be their official wedding planner, like the Mundanes had. She decided that she would come once or twice a week to help plan. Once Izzy left, Alec called Magnus over to him. "I don't think I have ever been this excited as I am now for our wedding. I love you so much Magnus." They kissed lovingly.
