The Love Through Silence

Chapter 4

Two days went by and the doctors allowed Magnus to take Alec back home to live there. They had given him a schedule for Alec to do his physical therapy. When Alec saw the paper, he made a displeased face. Magnus understood. He was a Shadowhunter, he was trained to fight and now he is stuck in a wheelchair and unable to talk.

 When they got home, Alec looked confused. The apartment was as they left it. He knew it was Christmas because Simon came to visit when he was in the coma to sing him Christmas songs that he didn't really know. Magnus always got as many decorations as possible and the apartment always smelled like Christmas. As Magnus pushed Alec into the living room, Alec looked at him. "What's wrong darling?" Magnus said. Alec typed into his phone, "Where's all the Christmas stuff?" Magnus' face fell and sat on the couch beside Alec's chair and held his face. "I haven't been here since the night of your accident. I have stayed with you the whole time." Alec gave a small smile and looked at Magnus. Slowly they broke the distance between them, passionately kissing. As soon as they pulled away Magnus said "I have missed you so much. I am so incredibly happy to finally have my Alexander back." Alec gave a huge smile and hugged Magnus, burying his face into Magnus' neck. It was late so Magnus pushed Alec to their room and helped him onto the bed. The two held onto each other as if, if they let go they would lose each other again.

The next morning Magnus woke up earlier than Alec and decorated the entire apartment with Christmas decorations like the previous years. Alec woke up and panicked when he didn't feel Magnus there, he tried to speak but remembered. He quickly grabbed his phone and texted Magnus. "Magnus, where are you?" Magnus looked at his phone and ran to their room, and saw Alec sitting up against the headboard unable to actually get off himself. He gave Magnus a smile and he came to help him in his chair. Once he was sitting, Magnus pushed him slowly into the living room. He tried to stay in front of as much as he could to see the look on his face when they reached the decorations.

 Alec looked up and saw all the decorations and the giant tree in the corner. He took a deep breath, it smelled like candy canes and pine tree. He gave the biggest smile and pulled Magnus in to kiss him. He then got his phone and said "I love you so much Mags!" Magnus looked up from his phone and said "I love you too Alexander."

Magnus had made breakfast, and brought it into the living room. He helped Alec onto the couch and sat beside him. They sat and ate, as Magnus filled Alec in on everything that has happened the last three months. Magnus then reached behind him and grabbed a present box that was elegantly wrapped with Alec's name on it. "I got this for you while you were still... at the Institute." Magnus said while handing the box to Alec. His face lit up as he took the box and started to open it. Once it was open, he looked down to see what it was. An IPad. Alec gave a huge grin and kissed Magnus. Magnus then said "While you were in the coma, the doctor's told us that you may not be able to speak, so I went out and got it with a program that can help you say what you want to say." Alec looked up and started to cry. Magnus pulled him in for a hug. Alec then took the IPad and began to type. "I love you. Thank you so much." After he had said that he looked at Magnus and his face fell and more tears started to fall down his face. Magnus looked worried. "Hey what's wrong?" Alec began typing. "I didn't get you anything. I can't even get anything for you by myself. I can't even tell you how much I love you and how much I appreciate this." Magnus took Alec's hands and said "Alexander, you gave me the best gift I could ever ask for, you woke up. Even though you can't physically tell me you love me, it's okay. I know you want too and that's all that matters."

 They kissed passionately until there was a knock on the door. Magnus slowly got up and opened the door to Jace, Clary, Izzy, and Simon, all dressed in heavy winter attire. He beckoned for them to come in. they all put their stuff in the guest room and put their gifts on the table. Magnus made cups of hot chocolate appear in everyone's hands to warm them up. Everyone came to sit with Alec and Magnus at the couch. Alec showed them his new IPad and he started to talk to them with it. For hours, they all laughed and danced and told funny stories. Clary decided to order food and they all ate and exchanged gifts. Alec was so happy that he was awake and with everyone he loves. Everyone could notice it too since he rarely smiled and acted loose and not tense like he was before the coma.

They all left when they started to see that Alec was getting tired. Magnus wheeled Alec into their room and helped him get ready for bed. They laid there while Magnus talked and Alec typed. Magnus then looked at Alec and held his face and said "Why don't we learn sign language? That was we could both talk to each other the same way." Alec stared at Magnus as he thought. He then started typing. "I love that idea. When do we start?" "How about tomorrow after you physical therapy?" "Perfect." They kissed and started to fall asleep.
