On the countertop, lay 2 silver platters, "after you " he said,  gesturing for me to sit down,  I did and he joined me,  he pulled the lids of the platters and I smiled at the cheese burgers and fries that lay underneath, because he got it from the same place we went on our first date,  we went to a local diner,  because I said I wanted to go to somewhere normal where people won't take pictures of him,  and besides who would expect to see the mogul who is Gideon Cross ,at a diner.  And true to what I said nobody was there,  no papz,  none of that. We didn't expect to enjoy the food as much as we did,  but it was delicious.

"Bring back memories?" he asked,  dragging me  out of my trance, "a little bit".  I said. I bit into my burger and it tasted amazing. As I expected it to.  Gideon smiled at my reaction to the food. We spoke about my work and I handed him over the stats and showed him how his investment will grow etc.  "Wow you really have turned into an amazing businesswoman,  as I knew you would" I smiled at his praise. After the business talk,  I decided I should leave,  after all I was here on strict business.
"Why do you wanna leave so soon ?" disappointment filled his voice as he asked this.  "We're  done aren't we? " I said,  hiding the hurt that I felt knowing he was with his ex fiancee again. "I thought you might wanna spend more time here"
"I don't know if that's a good idea,  Gideon. I know about you and Corinne" I said and stood up to get my coat.
"What do you mean?"  He asked as confusion filled his face.
"Don't act obtuse,  you picked her up 3 weeks ago from the airport." I said letting a little bit of anger slip through in my response to him.
" We had unfinished business,  Serena,  we have nothing to do with each other I swear."
"Either way it's none of my business."
I tried to walk past him but he blocked the way out. Thank God the glass was frosted so no one could see the debacle happening in his office.
" You left me,  all you said was it would be better this way,  you know you still love me,  don't I deserve to know what I did  wrong."
All of a sudden I felt that stabbing pain in my heart, the pain I hoped to never feel again. I looked up at him,  pain filled my eyes,  I didn't even try to hide it,  I wanted him to see how his words hurt to hear.
" You weren't  there when I needed you,  you were out,  with her." I said bitterly,  through clenched teeth,  I shoved past him and grabbed my coat and left. How could he say that?!  Ugh I can't believe this,  how could I think this would be different , how stupid of me,  I'm so naive . I was about to step into the elevator when I felt an arm snake around my waist and pulled me closer , I knew it was his,  I loved the way he held me like that,  it always calmed the storm. We were  in the elevator alone,  just the two of us. He held me close to him,  he inhaled my scent,  as if he'd been addicted to me,  like I was his own personal dose of heroin.
"I'm sorry", he said,  I could hear the sincerity in his voice and my heart clenched itself. I hadn't even told him everything yet. The elevator arrived at the first floor,  Gideon just stood,  holding me close to him,  I was about to pull away,  but he intertwined our fingers and locked it, the gesture took me by surprise.
