I woke up early the next morning, I had something planned and knew Emily wouldn't go along with it, so I had to do it on my own.She was down stairs when I made way down and grabbed my keys, "I'm going to swing by the doctors office before school, shouldn't take too long."
She looked up at me, "do you want me to go with you?"
I shook my head as I grabbed an apple from the table, "I can do it, I should be done before my first class period with you."
I grabbed my bag and headed for the door. The doctor's visit went just as I wanted, sometimes I loved having money, it got me exactly what I wanted.
I was right I got back just in time for her class, "how did the Dr go?"
"It went well Miss Connors, everything is a okay."
She looked at me funny because I called her by her last name, but she was the one that wanted boundaries. This was some place that boundaries needed to be set back, and I intended on following her wishes.
Something about today felt good though, I was joking and cutting up with people in classes, and for the first time in a while I felt like a kid.
Emily kept trying to talk to me, I answered her questions, but I think she finally got the hint. I wasn't being rude or ignoring her, we both just needed to be like this.
I was excited for the end of the day, as soon as the bell rang I ran as quick as I could to the locker room. I changed into my football gear and was one of the first ones out, I handed coach the note as he looked it over. "Well what are you standing there for get your ass to work Johnson," I grinned before running to my spot on the field and began stretching.
It wasn't long until I saw Emily marching toward the field, and headed straight for the coach, I laughed internally as I could see she was trying not to scream when coach handed her the note.
I continued warming up when I saw her approaching me, "RJ what the hell did you do?"
I never looked at her, "I went to the Dr and got a release. He seems to think I'm physically fine to play."
She squatted down to where there was no where to look but at her, "you know as well as I do that doctor said no more football, so how much did you pay him to get that?"
I just grinned, "boundaries Miss Connors."
Her face turned red, "screw you RJ, I was wrong when I said you should be older. Your actions the past couple of days have proven one thing to me. You only care about yourself, and since you have money you get whatever you want.
So go ahead play your stupid little football, I hope they knock the shit out of you until next week."
She turned to walk off but this time I stopped her, "you were the one who wanted boundaries Emily, and I'm simply trying to do that for you. You know football is my life, so yes I will pay whatever do to what I love."
She ran her fingers through her hair, "damnit RJ I know I said I wanted boundaries, it didn't mean I wanted you to try to kill yourself."
"Emily we are one game away from state, and we can make it four in a row. Don't tell me if you didn't have the option you wouldn't do anything to make sure that happened."
"This is what I'm talking about RJ, it's high school football, it's not worth injurying yourself permanently."
I placed my helmet on my hips, "that's where your wrong, it's everything to me. For four years this has been my happy place, no nightmares, no whips no ties.
No thoughts of my parents, no thoughts of anything. You know why Emily, because right here I'm happy, and in two games that's over for me."
"I get it RJ, you found something that made you happy, and forget all the bad memories, but you just had a miscarriage, your body is not ready for this."
I stepped closer lowering my voice, "and only me and you know about that. Coach and the guys only think I was recovering from a concussion. That is my business if I want people to know, not for you to be throwing it in my face."
When she opened her mouth, the coach's whistle blew, "I'll see you later."
Practice was great, it felt good to take out some aggression. Coach even told me to take it easy, apparently I was hitting some of the guys a little to hard.
When I got home Emily wasn't there, I found it odd, but then again she was mad at me. I made myself something to eat before, sitting down at the table and doing my homework.
I kept checking my phone to see if Emily had texted, but there was nothing. Finally at around midnight I called her.
When she answered I already knew she was drunk, "Emily where are you?'
I heard another girl talking as well, "boundaries Miss Johnson," was all she said before she hung up.
I went to bed angry, but why was I angry she basically played me at my own game, and by the way I was feeling she had won.
I went to bed, when I got up the next morning for school she still wasn't there. I just shook my head, as I made my way to school.
When it was time for her class I noticed she wasn't in the hall, I just figured she called in. Boy was I wrong sitting at her desk was a very hungover Emily, I wanted to laugh until I saw an outline of a hickey on her collarbone.
When she saw me her eyes shot down to her desk, I couldn't help it when I walked by, "looks like someone isn't a good two shoes anymore." I pointed at her shoulder which she quickly covered but had no response.
She told everybody she was sick, so they had free time to do whatever. I excused myself to the restroom, but made my way down to the lunch room. I got some crackers, and Gatorade, before stopping at the nurse's office and grabbing some Tylenol.
When I got back to the room all the kids were busy, and Emily had her head on the desk. I pulled the chair up beside her desk placing all the items doesn't beside her.
When she saw them she looked up at me, "no more comments?"
I shook my head, "no Emily no more comments, eat, drink, and take."
She didn't argue as she ate a few crackers, before taking the medicine, "so we are back to first names I see."
I sighed, "look Emily, I'm sorry okay, but what I did you should expect from me. What you did last night that is not you, and we both know that."
She groaned, "I know, I was just so mad. It was only suppose to be one drink, but turned into many more."
I laughed and she grabbed her head, "I'm sorry, it's not funny but at the same time it is."
She gave me a go to hell look, "so what was her name?"
She shrugged her shoulders, "I don't remember, and honestly don't even want to think about it, I'll just embarrass myself so over again."
"Oh no you have to spill now."
She looked around to make sure no one was listening, "fine, but not one word RJ or I will kill you I swear. So I went for a drink, a pretty girl came up and kept buying me more.
We danced we talked, things got heated. So she took me back to her place, and it went down hill from there."
I grinned, "what did you pass out in the middle of sex, or puke on her?"
She just shook her head, "God I actually wish it would have been something like that. Apparently when she hit this spot, I moaned a name and let's just say it wasn't hers."
Her blue eyes locked with mine, and she didn't have to worry about me saying anything because I was speechless.
Even when Emily Connors was drunk and trying to forget about me, she still wanted me.
