A girl, no older than seventeen, bounces through the halls of Ms. Kelly's orphanage. She passes several kids who laugh at her as she slightly slips on one of the carpets in the hall. "Hey, Bridget! Slow down a little, you don't want to kill yourself before you even get out of here!"
Bridget waves the guy off and quickly pounds up the stairs towards her room where her computer lay neatly on her bed again. Her brown hair with several blonde streaks is pulled into a pony-tail that was starting to come out. She falls onto the bed with a laugh and opens the laptop.
Automatically, the 'no network available' notification pops up and she slams the device closed with a small grumble of anger. Yes, this was one of the nicer-ish adoption homes, but it still had its downfalls. LIke the damn wifi for instance. She wasn't complaining about not having wifi, she was only complaining about the fact that she couldn't do homework, practice her talents, and other things that kept her entertained throughout the day.
"Hey, Bridget?" A young girl with red hair calls while hanging her head in the doorway.
"Yes, Carly?" Bridget replies while looking up from her bed.
"The wifi is out again and I need to do my homework. Can you ask Kelly to go downstairs and fix it?" She begs.
"I...isn't she busy right now?" Bridget demands. "I thought she had a meeting this morning."
"It wasn't until the afternoon." Carly shakes her head. "I think."
Bridget sighs and rubs her temples before swinging her legs off of the bed. She stands and stretches her back before walking to Carly who was still waiting by the door. "I'll go ask, would you go and get your brother for me? He's one of the best flashlight holders I know."
"Okay! I'll see you!" Carly smiles and quickly bounds down the hall towards the room where most of the kids chose to hang out during the day when there wasn't normally things to do.
Bridget rolls her shoulders and walks down the hallway in the opposite direction, only to stop to speak to another child a few doors down. Carly usually got distracted anyway, so she had a few minutes to ask questions.
Downstairs
"Hi, Mr. Stark. Correct?" Kelly Anderson, the woman in charge of the adoption home, greets while extending her hand to shake Tony's. He smiles while taking off his sunglasses before shaking her hand. Kelly moves on to greet the rest of the team, which included Steve, Natasha, Clint, and Bruce.
"Nice to meet you...Kelly?" Tony flirts with a sly smile, Natasha rolls her eyes while crossing her arms.
"I was very um...surprised when you called." Kelly clears her throat after looking at Natasha's impending glare. "I didn't know that the Avengers as a whole wanted children."
"Child." Clint corrects but quickly clears his throat awkwardly after receiving looks from the other team members. "We're uh, it's pretty complicated."
"But we have a great home." Steve quickly jumps in. "It's just...some of us are slightly confused with what they want."
"Oh." Kelly awkwardly nods. "Well, if you would all please follow me into my office, we can discuss things more and figure everything out."
"That sounds great," Bruce speaks up with a forced smile. Kelly nods and takes a deep breath before turning to walk down a hall that would take them the fastest way to her office, without bumping into the children that called this place home.
Five minutes later, the team is all seated across from Kelly. All wearing different expressions as she types away on her computer. Kelly takes a deep breath and fixes her glasses before gaining the confidence to speak again. "So, are you all going in on this adoption or just one of you?"
"We all wish to go in." Tony pipes up. "It's a team thing."
"Right, of course." Kelly swallows and quickly averts her eyes back to her screen. "What um...age group are you looking into?"
"Well, someone old enough to take care of themselves when things get rough but young enough where they'd still need us." Steve innocently smiles.
"That usually could mean-" Kelly is interrupted by her office door opening. Bridget quickly bounds in without looking up, her hair covering her crystal blue eyes.
"I'm sorry Ms. Kelly. There's a problem with the main-frame again, can I go downstairs to fix it? Carly is complaining about not being able to finish his homework. Oh, sorry. I didn't know you were in the middle of a meeting." Bridget trails off after she had finally looked up to see that Kelly was indeed in a meeting.
"Oh, yes. Of course. Be careful though." Kelly orders while looking at Bridget from over the top of her glasses.
"I always am." Bridget sarcastically smiles while tipping her head to the side innocently.
"Bridget," Kelly warns. Bridget lets out a loud sigh before finally giving in.
"Alright, alright. I shall be careful!" She laughs while raising her hands in the air. Kelly nods to her and Bridget offers an overdramatic bow before she quickly leaves the room, shutting the door quietly behind her.
The room sits in silence for a few seconds as Kelly tries to regain her composure. "I'm so sorry about that, she's one of our smartest here and is always trying to fix things."
"It's no problem." Clint waves her off with a smile.
"Who is she and can I adopt her?" Tony demands with a smile. "Because if they don't want to, I sure as hell will."
"Her name is Bridget Cooper, she's seventeen years old." Kelly lists off. "And very stubborn."
"Oh yeah, we need to adopt her."
