Bridget rounds the corner of the hall and runs into Carly once again. Her brother, Zach, stands next to her with his flashlight held tightly in his grasp. Bridget smiles and pats his head before bending down to pick the lock on the door that led to the basement.

"Hey, are you going to the basement again?" The voice of a young boy questions from somewhere behind Bridget.

"Yes, Bridget's going to fix the wifi again," Carly replies while rocking on her feet. "Do you want to join us?"

"Yeah, sounds fun." The voice of another girl agrees with a shrug. Finally, the lock opens and Bridget rips it off the door. She pulls the heavy, wooden door open and swallows the small lump in her throat as she looked down the dark steps.

"I-I will go first." Zach stutters while holding his flashlight forward with shaking hands. "S-since I h-have the f-flashlight."

"It's alright Zach." Bridget sighs while placing a hand on his shoulder. "I can go first and give you the flashlight at the bottom."

"O-okay. I'll p-protect from the b-back." Zach states and immediately hands her the flashlight.

"Sounds good," Bridget replies as she flicks the light on. Slowly, she begins the descent down the stairs with seven pairs of feet following behind her. They all reach the bottom without problems and walk to the wifi router as fast as they could. Bridget gives Zach his flashlight back before popping opening the large-ass router.

Now, most people wouldn't be as nervous as they were to go down in the basement of the place they lived. Well, most people didn't have people regularly break into their homes and live in the basement for as long as they could before being caught, it scared everyone into not wanting to go back down there for weeks. Which meant that they usually went without a network connection for a while.

This was only the second time that they had all ventured downstairs after that whole fiasco occurred and almost all of them were petrified to be down there. Zach finally stops shaking and begins to hold the flashlight steady after about a minute of the room being filled with peace.

"So, Carly, do you think that you and Zach will stick together when you're adopted?" One of the girl's questions as Bridget continues to work. Instantly, Bridget stiffens up but doesn't say anything as the conversation continues.

"Well, I hope so." Carly smiles. "But...if something happens, we may just have to not be together."

"My brother and I were separated." A boy mumbles while digging his heel into the ground. "I haven't seen him for a few months."

"Do you think you're going to be adopted?" Zach questions the boy.

"Yes, I hope so." He replies.

"Okay, guys." Bridget finally interrupts the conversation. She stands and closes the router with a cross expression. "I get that you guys want a family and everything, but don't talk about all the sad things like that. Okay? Focus on the good things that we have."

"Like what?" A girl snarkily questions.

"Did you know that most adoption homes don't have wifi available for the kids?" Bridget offers. "And some homes don't have nice owners! If you think about it, we actually have it really good."

"If you say so." A boy shrugs.

"You would know." The same girl scoffs. "You have been here forever."

"That's a little far, don't you think?" Carly questions.

"No, it's the truth." She rolls her eyes.

"Alright, the freaking network is fixed." Bridget crossly states while trying to hold back her anger. "Go back upstairs and do whatever the hell you were planning on doing, will you?"

Nobody argues with her and they all quickly clamber up the stairs, Zach stays behind to hand her his flashlight before quickly rushing after the others. Bridget sighs and falls against the wall with her eyes closed, trying to grab just a minute to herself to calm down.

"Hey, Bridget," Carly calls while pulling on her sleeve. "Are you alright?"

"I'm getting there." Bridget mumbles.

"Good." Carly states. "Would you come upstairs? Ms. Kelly wants to talk with you."

"Alright." Bridget let's out a breath after a few seconds of silence. Carly takes the flashlight from her hand and leads Bridget upstairs. Bridget shuts and locks the door before allowing Carly to lead her the rest of the way to Kelly's office. "Hey, thanks Carly for letting me use you as a downfall for Kelly. That damn thing has been bothering me for weeks."

"Yeah, it's okay." Carly smiles when they stop in front of Kelly's office door. "Can we play a game later? Just the two of us?"

"Yes, I'll come find you after I talk with Kelly. Okay?" Bridget offers. Carly quickly nods before bounding down the hall again. Bridget smiles at her back before walking into Kelly's office without knocking. "Hi, Kelly. What's up?"

"Well, I wanted to talk to you about a possible adoption." Kelly smiles while gesturing to the seat in front of her.

"For whom?" She questions.

"You." Kelly chuckles. "And the Avengers."

"You've got to be joking, they...why would they want me? Is this some kind of joke?!" Bridget gasps while gripping the edge of her chair to keep her from falling out of happiness.

"No, I am not joking." Kelly laughs while clapping her hands. "Now, I can contact Mr. Stark and they will come back in a few days to meet you officially. There is still the whole factor of one of our agents going to their home to make sure it is fit, but I believe this will go by much faster than normal."

"What about my....abilities?" Bridget slowly questions.

"I mentioned it to them and that made them want you more." Kelly shakes her head in disbelief. "First time, huh?"

"Yeah." She whispers while looking down at her lap.

"Go get some rest, Bridget." Kelly orders. "It's been a long day."

"I'll see you tomorrow, Kelly." Bridget nods while standing. Kelly doesn't reply and she takes that as her cue to leave.

It takes not even a minute for Bridget to get back to her room. She shuts the door and falls on it with a grateful smile. Her room was dark except for the fairy lights that decorated the trim on the ceiling.

"I can't believe it." Bridget gasps as her hand encloses the necklace that her mother had left with her years okay. Slowly, she takes the necklace off of her neck and holds it in front of her eyes as she slides down to the floor.  "We're finally going somewhere, mom."
