Chapter 6: The Promise

[LUCY'S P.O.V]

All I remember was a raging Natsu screaming at me, the look a disgust on his face.

And it hurt. So bad. But I couldn't remember anything after that. Just darkness.

I fluttered my eyes open to find Gray asleep in a chair next to my bed. Wait, I'm at home? What happened to our date? I didn't want to wake up Gray, so I just sat there, finding myself staring at his sleeping face.

I could hear him muttering... So I slowly crept towards him.

"Lucy... I-I'll save y-you..." I couldn't help but heat up at his words. My eyes travelled down to his lips. I remember well what they felt like. Then the kiss that me and Natsu shared came up in my head. I remember it was warm... But Gray's kiss meant more to me. It had purpose.

He slowly opened his eyes, and I guess I was so close to his face he jumped back. He looked surprised and I just backed away.

"I-I didn't mean to startle you!" I said quickly, sitting back on the bed. Soon, the pain of Natsu's words came back.

"Luce... You okay?" He asked, and I nodded slowly. "Look, I've got to go. If you-"

"-Thank you, Gray." I interrupted him, glaring up at his dark eyes. He suppressed a grin and sat next to me, putting an arm around my body.

"I'll always be there for you, Luce. Don't forget that." He said, but I couldn't help the tears unwillingly fall from my eyes. Gray's expression turned concerned, he probably thought that he made me cry.

"D-Did I say something wrong?" Gray asked, frantic.

I shook my head quickly, drying my eyes with a wide grin. "No! No... You didn't Gray."

I really am falling in love with Gray.

[GRAY'S P.O.V]

I exited the house where most of the guys lived in Fairy Tail, and headed to the guild. Lucy was on my mind. How could she not? I never really realise how amazing she was before. I regret not saying something earlier.

I walked through the open doors, to be greeted by Erza, Wendy, Carla, Levy and Gajeel.

"Hello Gray. Where were you yesterday? We were deciding on a job to take for this week." Wendy asked, with Carla in her arms. With that question, I felt warmth burrow into my cheeks, so I avoided eye contact.

"U-Uh, at home... Nothing special." I replied, but they all seemed unsatisfied by my reply.

"Is that so? Because Levy here saw you and Lucy walking together." Erza said, with a knowing smirk on her face.

"Yep! I was buying some books. But I also saw something else... Lucy crying, Natsu yelling, and Gray looking like he was open to make him a popsicle." Levy said, and I knew what she was talking about.

"Ah... That. Well, whilst me and Lucy were just WALKING, Natsu found us and started freaking out. I think she had a panic attack and fainted. She was pretty shook up so I took her home." I explained and they all just looked really angry.

Soon, Natsu, Lisanna and Happy came into the guild doors. It was suprising because Happy seemed a bit... Unhappy.

"We collected 300,000J for that job!" Lisanna squealed. I never liked her that much, anyway. I saw Natsu's eyes trail towards me and he growled.
