Chapter 8: Honest Truth

5:30am (Next Morning)

[LUCY'S P.O.V]

All I could feel was a muscular arm around my waist, pulling me into a warm body. I knew it was Natsu. I told him before if he tried anything funny, he'd be sleeping on the floor. But I had caught him snuggling against me like a puppy a number of times. Natsu's words from the previous night haunted me, filling me with a sick feeling of dread and sadness. I had heard from Erza that Lisanna was going on about Natsu supposedly dumping her, but none of the girls cared. We all shared the same hate for the woman. 

I managed to peel Natsu's heavy limbs from my body, shuffling out of his grip and staring up at the ceiling. I reached out my head, letting it fall back down on my face, pushing my honey coloured locks from my face. 

"Lu..Lucy... Is mine..." I heard him mumble. Next thing I knew, I was facing his warm, bare chest. I cursed him and the warmth that met my cheeks. I tried to pull away, but it seemed like he didn't want me to. I looked up to see his sleepy face. He was always so peaceful when he was sleeping, opposed to the loud, wild demeanour that used to annoy me.

My eyes travelled from his closed eyes to his lips. My thoughts went back to his kiss. Back to what it tasted like. I didn't remember. I edged closer and closer to his lips, slightly parted. I held my breath and pressed my lips against his. I should have stopped there, in fact, I should have never done it to begin with, but my heart lurched forward, moving my lips.

I suddenly felt him move with me, following my pace with ease. I opened my eyes to him grinning. I jerked back, clasping my hand over my mouth, realising my actions.

He laid there, with that smirk across his face.

"You were supposed to be asleep!" I whispered harshly, wanting to disappear, sink back into slumber and forget. He just laughed and licked his lips. I tried to push him away as much as I could, but he just pulled me closer by my night shorts, tugging them down slightly by doing so.

"Don't worry, that's how I always wanna wake up." He said, which made me seethe with rage even more.

"Sh-Shut up... I was just... I don't know what I was doing." I said quietly. I quickly jumped out of the bed, frantically throwing my hair into a bun without care.

I grimaced at the sight of myself in the wardrobe mirror and reached for my shoes that were placed by the bed. I then felt warm arms wrap around my waist from behind, his forehead resting on the small of my back.

"I'm sorry, Lucy..." Natsu whispered. I know he means it. But...

"It's okay, Natsu." 

With everything I had, I turned, moving out of his grip. "I should be the one saying sorry. I shouldn't of... Uhm, kissed you like that. It was obviously invading your-"

"-It's okay." Natsu said, giving me one of those warm smiles. I offered him a smile back that never reached my eyes. When he realised the coldness of my expression, I slipped on my shoes, not bothering that I was only in a shirt and shorts and headed for the beach.

It was early, the morning sun hadn't yet touched the pale gray-blue sky. The ocean was not like it was yesterday; warm, inviting, filled with laughter and love. No, it was cold that every breath was like daggers to my lungs. Like my mind reflected how the world looked; foggy and dull. 

I ran to the shoreline, stopping when my feet came in contact with the icy water. Even though the water was so cold, I wanted to get used to the cold for Gray. After the job we went on together, he had to give me his coat, insisting that my choice of clothing was terrible for the job we were on. He wasn't wrong. The coat smelled like the ocean. It had his scent.
