Guilt. Innocence. Good. Evil. Life. Death. As the shadows around Riverdale deepened, the lines that separated these polar opposites blurred and distorted. "I'm guilty," Cheryl said in biology class, but of what? -Jughead Jones III

Cheryl couldn't have killed Jason, she loved her brother so much. Maybe too much. But she was the last person to see her right?

Later everyone learned what really happened at Sweetwater River on that fateful day in July. Everyone including Sheriff Keller, Principal Weatherbee, and Cheryl's parents who weren't very pleased with what she revealed without a lawyer present.

Contrary to what Cheryl's first story was, Cheryl and Jason made it to shore, dry as nails. Jason promised Cheryl he'd contact her soon, and she waited. But Cheryl never got a call, text, email, or even a letter from her dear brother. By then she knew something was wrong. And Jason did not drown but was shot, sometime around July 11th. Clearly, Cheryl had a lot of explaining to do.

Monday morning you came to the student lounge where the core four sat, along with Cheryl.

"I can't believe my mom published this," you overheard what Betty said.

"It's not true! I wouldn't kill my brother, I loved him," Cheryl exclaimed.

"Betty, your mom is head of The Register. Exposing people is her top hobby, even if what she says isn't true," Jughead assured.

"Hey, guys," you popped out to be seen by the group.

"Oh, hi, Y/N!" Veronica greeted you.

You hesitated for a moment. "Do you mind if I talk to Cheryl for a bit?" you asked.

Archie shrugged, "Go ahead," and you walked off with Cheryl

"...how am I supposed to choose between football and music..."

Out in the hallway, you and Cheryl waited for a teacher to pass before beginning an unwanted conversation.

"Y/N, what's up? You look so... distraught," Cheryl questioned. You fiddled with your hands and bit your lip before answering.

"I need you to tell me what really happened with Jason. I want to know-"

"You want to know what? If I killed my brother? If I'm some crazy-headed, incest- loving Blossom? Is that what you think of me?"

"Cheryl, no. I just-"

"You don't trust me, do you?" Cheryl eyed you menacingly. "Relationships are built on trust, Y/N, and if we don't trust each other, then we can't be together!" Cheryl yelled, instantly regretting her words.

Her words were a knife to your heart. You did trust Cheryl, very much so. You didn't mean for her to get upset, or for yourself to get upset either. But you couldn't help those tears from falling, and your legs from running, taking you to the auditorium.

~

Soon you found a seat in one of the red-violet chairs in the school's theater. You made sure to stay quiet, hearing the Pussycats rehearsing backstage. Closing your eyes, you laid back in the comfortable seat, keeping your ears open to the music. However, the serene feeling ended, signaled by the first school bell of the day.
