Right before first period during announcements, Sheriff Keller came over the PA confirming that Jason Blossom had been found Saturday night. His body had washed up on Sweetwater's shores and was found by Kevin and Moose. But Jason hadn't drowned, he was shot.
All your nerves were put aside and you were more worried about how Cheryl was dealing with the discovery, rather than if she wanted to be your girlfriend or not. Cheryl didn't speak to you all day, and you respected that.
You'd promised to meet Betty at cheer practice after school Monday, you would've done just that, but you were stopped by a teacher, asking how your summer went. You explained how you were already late for cheer practice and made sure to catch up with the teacher some other time.
Quietly, you found your way to the gym, hearing Cheryl preach to the Vixens.
"What about your girlfriend, Cheryl? Is she going to be performing with us too? She's an awful River Vixen, she didn't even show up today," said one of the girls.
You stopped dead in your tracks to listen how Cheryl would respond to the girl's remark.
"Y/N's not my girlfriend. And I know she's slow at picking up on things, but that doesn't put you under any obligation to judge her," Cheryl replied.
"But Y/N's awful!" cried another girl, causing others to nod their heads.
You couldn't believe what you were hearing, did the girls really mean all of this?
"Come on, Cheryl, why are you defending her?"
Then, Cheryl snapped. "Okay, fine! Y/N's awful, I know! I buttered her up Friday night to make her feel like she was worth something-"
You stepped into view of the whole group. "Is that what you really think of me?" You cried, asking not only Cheryl but all the girls. "Am I as worthless as you say I am? I think you've got it all wrong. You guys are awful."
It was a weak statement, but you couldn't come up with anything clever in the moment. Your eyes overflowed with tears as you ran out the gym into the rain, not even hearing the yells from Betty and Veronica for you to come back.
